PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT LEARNING

Cronulla High School has a committed and enthusiastic teaching staff who are determined to maintain and to further improve our record of adding value to your child’s performance. We have a number of programs in place to support student learning, some of which are described below.

The Learning and Citizenship Passport

Student achievement in the areas of Learning & Citizenship is recognised and re-enforced at Cronulla High School by the use of multi-level merit system. Students are responsible for maintaining their Folder and all certificates for the entire time they are at Cronulla. Students can reach bronze, silver, and gold levels through their efforts. The award of the gold medal includes a gold certificate, a $100 eftpos card from the P & C in recognition of long and outstanding achievement.

Recognising Achievement

Academic, sporting, cultural and community achievements are recognised and rewarded at Cronulla High School with a range of prizes and awards over and above the Learning & Citizenship Passport. Cash performance incentives are donated to the school by businesses and individuals in the community. These groups actively support our goal of recognising student achievement. These include academic, sporting and performing arts awards and scholarships. The P&C also fund awards to the first three place-getters in each year’s HSC and subsidise the costs of students representing the school in a variety of activities covering leadership, sporting, performing arts, debating activities etc. This array of awards ensures that achievement is publicly recognised and valued across the school.

Homework Centre

The Homework Centre will run every Wednesday, before and after school. Two teachers will be in the library from 8am to 8:40am and 3:10 to 4.15pm, to help students with their studies, whether it be homework, assessment tasks, or just providing a space for students with computer and printer facilities. The Homework Centre is a valuable tool for students to maximise their study time.

Careers Adviser

A full-time careers adviser will work with students from Year 9 onwards. Work placement opportunities begin in Year 9, so that students may experience a variety of careers and begin defining their goals for the future.

Welfare Team

Counselling and advice on personal, emotional and family issues are available from the Head Teacher Welfare, school counsellor, year adviser and girls’ supervisor. All staff members, including the principal and deputy principals, are committed to helping students with any problems they face.

Information Technology

Computer based learning is integrated across the curriculum and each student in Years 7 and 8 undertakes Computing Studies. The library computers as well as those in the library’s computer room are available to students at recess and lunchtimes.
