St Clair High School offers an Equity Assistance Program called the "Long Term Laptop Borrowing" program. This program supports families who are unable to provide their own device for school by supplying a laptop for the student to use throughout the school year. Families must review and complete the following application form, which will be assessed by the relevant staff, prior to a laptop being allocated to the student.

Ownership

The Laptop is on loan and as such The Department of Education retains ownership of the Laptop at all times.
The Laptop is supplied for the predominate use by the student. They are responsible for all information and content on the device, which will be monitored by the school.
The Laptop is to be used in ways that are educational and appropriate, as directed by my teachers.
Teaching staff have the right to look at any application or file on the Laptop at any time.
Students should have no expectation of privacy of materials found on the Laptop.
Laptops must remain free of any writing, drawing, stickers or labels.
Students are not permitted to add or delete apps without approval from the school.
All students should recognise and guard their personal information, including a home address or phone number, or the address or phone number of others.
St Clair High School makes no guarantee, written or implied, that materials on the Laptop, including student work, will be safe from deletion or corruption, accident or otherwise.
The school recommends that when using the Laptop at home it is used in a family or common area and not in the bedroom.
Parents are responsible for supervising their child’s use of the Laptop when not at school.

Care and Maintenance of the Laptop.

The care of the Laptop is each student’s responsibility.
Never leave a Laptop unattended. When not in your personal possession, the Laptop should be in a secure, locked environment.
The Laptop comes with a protective case to help minimize the damage. The Laptop must remain in the protective case at all times.
Students should not lend their Laptop to another person. Each Laptop is assigned to an individual student and the responsibility for the care of the Laptop solely rests with this student.
The Laptop is an electronic device and care must be exercised when handling the Laptop. Never throw or slide the Laptop or a book bag that contains a Laptop. Never carry the Laptop in the same school bag compartment as your lunchbox and drink bottle. Avoid placing weight on the Laptop.
Avoid applying liquids to the Laptop. The Laptop can be cleaned with a soft, slightly water-dampened, lint-free cloth. Avoid getting moisture in the openings. Do not use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, alcohol, ammonia or abrasives to clean the Laptop. Use of unapproved cleaners may remove the protective film covering the face of the Laptop.
While the Laptop is scratch resistant, the Laptop will scratch. Avoid contact with sharp objects.
Never expose a Laptop to long-term extremes in temperature or direct sunlight. Do not store your Laptop in a car.
Your Laptop comes with ports for charging and other accessories. Care must be exercised when plugging and unplugging accessories. Student-issued Laptop accessories are the responsibility of the student.
Each Laptop has a unique serial number and identification sticker. At no time should these numbers or stickers be modified or removed.
Do not attempt to gain access to the internal electronics or repair your Laptop. If your Laptop fails to work or is damaged, report the problem to the classroom teacher as soon as possible. Laptop repair/ replacement options will be determined by the appropriate staff.

Damage or Loss of Equipment

All Laptops and batteries are covered by a manufacturer’s warranty. The warranty covers manufacturer’s defects and normal use of Laptop. It does not cover negligence, abuse or malicious damage.
Any problems, vandalism, damage, loss or theft of the Laptop must be reported immediately to the School.
In the case of suspected theft a police report must be made by the family and an event number provided to the school.
Students will be required to replace lost or damaged chargers/ covers.

Inspections

All students are required to present their device to school staff upon request for inspection. Inspections occur to ensure that the device is in working order and being properly cared for and maintained. Any damages or misuse will be followed through in accordance to the Student use of digital devices and online services (PD-2020-0471-V01.0.4) and St Clair High School Technology Agreement & Procedures (v.2025).

Borrowing Period

All devices apart of the Long Term Borrowing Program are allowed to be loaned for one school year. All students must return devices to school staff in late Term 4. Year 11 students continuing their studies into Year 12 are allowed to retain the device however an inspection is required prior to the end of year. All students will be provided with suitable notice by school staff when they are required to return their device to the school. A new application is required for the following school year if the family would like to continue with the program.

Access to the device

Devices are to remain with the state of New South Wales, Australia unless prior written approval by the school principal is provided. This includes devices being taken on holidays or trips. Students who are taking leave of absence from school should return devices to the school office for the duration of their absence unless explicit written permission is granted by the school. Please note that devices and student accounts are geo-blocked and will require special permissions to allow access outside of Australia.
