To celebrate the fantastic year we have had with both of our dance groups\, Yellow and Maroon Group will both be performing in the Com bined Schools Concert 2024 which is run buy our dance providers Groove Nat ion. The concert will take place on Monday 11th November (Term 4 Week 5) a t Hurstville Entertainment Centre - Marana Auditorium.

Thank you for your patience as we worked with the Tops Confe rence Centre and the 5 other schools to find a suitable alternative experi ence for our students after our initial band camp was impacted by the sign ificant power outage.
We are excited to confirm The Tops Conference Centre have offered to host our band students on Monday 28th October for a day of band tutorials and concert rehearsal culminating in an evening per formance for family and friends\, just as we would have experienced at our original camp in July.
All students will travel by bus to the Tops Conference Centre where they will participate in band tutorials and concer t rehearsal. Students will be given lunch\, afternoon tea and dinner. Ther e will be no cost for this day.
Parents\, carers\, friends and famil y members are then invited to join the students for their evening performa nce at 6:00pm. Parents and carers will then be able to collect their child at the conclusion of the Evening Concert at approximately 7.00pm and retu rn home.

As per tradition at Sutherland Public School\, we invite all Year 6 students to Club on East in Sutherland on Thursday the 12th of Dec ember to celebrate all their hardwork over the past 7 years and to bid the m farewell on their journey to high school.
Students are to arrive a t 5:45 pm for a 6:00 pm start\, at which time parents will be asked to lea ve the room. Parents are invited back at 8:00 pm to watch the graduation c eremony and have the last dance with their child\, with the night wrapping up at 9:00 pm.
The cost to attend this event is $25. This cost cove rs students'\; expenses\, including food\, drinks\, and decorations.
Throughout the year money has been collected at Year 6 fundraisers whi ch will be used to assist with any costs associated with the farewell that are not covered by the $25 levy.
Girls and boys are to dress semi-f ormally (such as for a nice restaurant). Students will be performing prepa red dances on the night and need to be able to dance in their footwear. No high heels are to be worn.

Our film entry into to the 'Cut Short Film Competition' bein g run by Sutherland Shire Libraries has made it to the Awards Night!
We have 4 student tickets available for this screening\, which will be he ld at Hoyts Cronulla on Friday 6 December. Students will need to meet Mrs Wilson in the Hoyts foyer at 5:30pm and parents are to return and collect their child at 7:20pm from the same location.
There is no cost to at tend this Awards Night.

2024 3-5 End of Year Picnic Day
Year 5 students will be participating in a day of team build ing activities at Kamay Botany Bay National Park\, at Kurnell. They will b e travelling to and from Kurnell in a bus\, and will be provided with subw ay for lunch. Students are to wear full sport uniform and ensure they have a hat and sunscreen. Students will be required to take a small bag with a waste-free recess and drinkbottle.
Students in Years 3-6 and competitive students in Year 2 tur ning 8 in 2025 (born in 2017) are invited to attend the Annual Swimming Ca rnival.
o 50m proficient swimmers will participate in 50m competitiv e events. Only qualifying times will proceed to zone.
o 25m races wi ll be held for the students listed as can swim 25-50m. These are non-compe titive races and will not progress to the zone carnival.
(only 50m c ompetitive races are eligible for zone carnivals).
o Non-swimmers wi ll wear a red band and participant in Novelty events.
o Year 2\, (Bo rn 2017) 8 year olds have the option to attend if they are competing as a proficient swimmer in 50m races. These st udents are then eligible for the Zone Carnival\, if they meet qualifying t imes.

Stage 3 students have an opportunity to attend a theatre in education program which provides practical strategies for bullying prevention\, online safety\, social ski lls and emotion regulation. \;
Develop ed by educators and a clinical psychologist\, The Protect ors is a creative and entertaining addition to Sutherland Public School 9\;s wellbeing program. Students will be inspired and empowered to stand up to bullying\, seek help and pr otect themselves at school and online.

Students in 6W will be joining other Year 6 OC students at C aringbah North Public School for a day of collaboration and STEM enrichmen t. Students will engage in a range of activities that will enhance their p roblem solving skills\, and have an opportunity to work with a diverse ran ge of like-minded peers. This day will develop the students' intellectual\ , creative and social-emotional intelligences which are key focus areas wi thin the OC program based on the High Perforance and Gifted Education(HPGE ) policy.
Students will meet teachers at Sutherland PS no later than 8:30am to enable travel via train to Caringbah North Public School. Stude nts will return to Sutherland PS with teachers and be dismissed from schoo l.
The purpose of the day is to provide students in Year 6 from local primary schools to work together along with students from The Janna li High School to enhance their leadership skills. Students will attend a range of workshops throughout the day and hear from various leaders within our school community.
The conference starts at 9:30am an d finishes at 2:00pm (approx). A sausage sizzle lunch will be provided for students on the day however\, students are asked to bring their own morni ng tea and drink bottle. Students with allergies or other dietary requirem ents are asked to bring their own lunch. \;Students are required to w ear their full school sports uniform.
The stu dent leaders will be walking from SPS to TJHS with Mr Austen. Mr Austen wi ll be supervising the students for part of the day\, with full day supervi sion provided by TJHS staff. Mr Austen will walk the school leaders back t o SPS for a 3pm pick up at school.

5U OC students will be visiting the UOW Science Centre on Tu esday\, 13th of May with several other Year 5 OC cohorts that are a part o f our OC Communities of Practice\, including Caringbah North PS\, Miranda PS\, Wollongong PS and Hurstville PS. They will be collaborating with peer s of OC programs and participating in several activities that target our S emester 1 Stage 3 Science outcomes. These activities consist of a Hands-on STEM exhibition\, live science shows\, a digital planetarium show\, and a mini workshop in our dedicated STEM Zone. We will be travelling by bus to and from the centre.
Time: Students will need to be at school at 8: 45am as the bus will leave school at 9am and return for normal school bell .
Cost: $35 per student which includes bus fare and entry to the UOW Science Centre.

The annual school cross country carnival will be held at Sut herland Oval on Monday May 5\, 2025. All students in Years 3-6 will be inv olved in the event and competitive runners in Year 2 who are turning 8 in 2025 are invited to participate.
Anticipated schedule of events is b elow. Students'\; age race is the age they are turning (or have turned) this year.
This year\, Stage 3 students will have the opportunity to pa rticipate in an excursion and camp at Berry Sport and Recreation Centre fo r three days and two nights. The camp aims to help students step outside t heir comfort zone\, build self-confidence\, create a sense of belonging an d work as teams! Students will be engaged in a program of activities desig ned to immerse them in challenging and exciting learning experiences\, whi ch will create lifelong memories and improve confidence and engagement.

Your child has indicated that they would like to be placed in one of our competitive chess teams for 2025. The com petitive chess competition is a round robin competition that involves othe r schools in the Sutherland and St George region. \;
All matches are played on Friday afternoons during Term 2 and Term 3\, with teams mee ting between 3:00pm &ndash\; 4:20pm to play a competitive chess match foll owing the rules of the NSW Junior Chess League (NSWJCL). Matches are playe d at either \;Sutherland Public School or different schools in the Sutherland and St George regions. \;
We have entered two Championship teams (Sutherland A &\; B) this ye ar and one Intermediate team (Sutherland C). The competition lasts ten weeks for Sutherland A &\; B teams and < strong>seven weeks for Sutherland C team. Studen ts will be allocated their team (A\, B or C) based on their chess experien ce and skills level to ensure they are in a competition that is at their l evel. \;
The first match of the season will commence on Friday the 9th of May. Matches begin before or by 4:00pm and must be completed before 4:20pm. On Tuesday\, 27th of May\, 2024 (Week 5)\, Lucas Heights Com munity School will host the Woronora River First Nations Student Council m eeting.
First Nations students\, in stage 3\, will come together wit h their peers from across the Sutherland Shire to meet and enhance their k nowledge of First Nations culture and members in the Sutherland Shire.&nbs p\;
The day will be led by Jesse Lowe from Yindyamarra Walkabouts\, ably assisted by First Nations students from LHCS 7-12.
Activities o n the day will include a Smoking ceremony\, yarning circle\, belonging act ivities and three workshops -Leadership\, Culture and Creative Arts. Stude nts will be provided lunch on the day.
The day will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Students will need to make their own way to and from LHCS. Th ere is no cost of the excursion. \;
Parents and carers are invit ed to join the opening and closing sessions of the day. Please ensure the physical permission note (also attached) that was sent home is returned to school. \;
Year 6 Hazelhurst Arts Centre Excursion
Year 6 students will have the exciting opportunity to visit the Hazelhurst Arts Centre in Gymea\, where they will work alongside local artists in professional art studios and explore the current exhibitions.
During the excursion\, students will collaborate with their peers from other Year 6 c lasses and take part in three art workshops led by experienced artists. Th ey will have the chance to use high-quality art materials and equipment as they analyse\, experiment\, and create three unique artworks. The day wil l also include a guided tour of Hazelhurst&rsquo\;s current exhibition\, e nriching their understanding of contemporary art and artistic techniques.< /p>

We are very excited that Maroon Dance Troupe will be perform ing in the Sutherland Shire Schools Music Festival 2025. Students will be required to attend a full dress rehearsal on Monday 25th August\, followed by the evening concert on Tuesday 26th August.
Students will need be at school by 8:30am on Monday 25th August dressed in their co stume and correct hairstyle (Slick low bun with centre part). No make up i s needed for the rehearsal. St udents need to be at school at 8:10am in order to catch the 8:33am train f rom Sutherland.
The Eisteddfod is expected to finished around 1pm so students will catch the train back to school in time for the normal schoo l end of day bell. If this event is running late\, parents will be contact ed through Schoolbytes.

a school band to perform in the foyer on this exciting evening!

These workshops will be run out of the Engadine High School (EHS) Libr ary\, and will be supervised by Engadine High School staff.
Students are to meet the EHS teachers at the COLA outside the Library at 9am each day\, with workshops finising at 2:50pm Wednesday and 3:05pm Thursday.
To celebrate the fantastic year we have had with both of our dance groups\, Yellow and Maroon Group will both be performing in the Com bined Schools Concert 2025 which is run by our dance providers Groove Nati on. The concert will take place on Monday 27th October (Term 4 Week 3) at Hurstville Entertainment Centre - Marana Auditorium.

Students will visit the Loftus Tramways museum as part of th eir History/Geography studies. Students will learn about features of place s\, including how spaces can be arranged for different purposes and invest igate how places are managed and cared for and discuss the connections peo ple have to different places. Students will identify and describe signific ant people\, events\, places and sites in the local community and describe the effects of changing technology on people’s lives over time. The lea rning activities will include a guided tour of the museum and a ride on a historic tram.

As per tradition at Sutherland Public School\, we invite all Year 6 students to Club on East in Sutherland on Thursday the 11th of Dec ember to celebrate all their hardwork over the past 7 years and to bid the m farewell on their journey to high school.
Students are to arrive a t 5:45 pm for a 6:00 pm start\, at which time parents will be asked to lea ve the room. Parents are invited back at 8:00 pm to watch the graduation c eremony and have the last dance with their child\, with the night wrapping up at 9:00 pm.
The cost for students to attend this event is $17\, which covers food\, drinks\, and decorations. The usual cost is $25\, but thanks to the generous sponsorship of Club on East\, $8 per student has be en subsidised.
Throughout the year money has been collected at Year 6 fundraisers which will be used to assist with any costs associated with the farewell that are not covered by the $25 levy.
Girls and boys ar e to dress semi-formally (such as for a nice restaurant). Students will be performing prepared dances on the night and need to be able to dance in t heir footwear. No high heels are to be worn.

Students of 6W will be performing a version of '\;Macbeth '\; for parents and family on Wednesday 03-Dec in the school Hall at 5: 00pm.

Year 5 students will be participating in a day of team build ing activities at Kamay Botany Bay National Park\, at Kurnell. To support our Debating Teams to perform at their best\, we have an opportunity for students to participate in a full day debating wor kshop at Tharawal Public School. This workshop is run by the Department of Education Arts Unit and is highly engaging and educative day.
Mrs W ilson will meet students at Tharawal Public School and supervise through t he workshops. Students are to find their own way to and from the workshops .
This showc ase offers students the opportunity to experience high school\, live theat re\, observe performance techniques\, and be inspired by older students wh o share a passion for the performing arts.

Our school has been offe red the opportunity to participate in the Junior Lifesavers Program\, deli vered by Royal Life Saving NSW in partnership with Sutherland Leisure Cent re.
The program is designed specifically for students who ar e not confident in the water and would benefit from building thei r confidence and developing essential water survival skills. It is not a traditional learn-to-swim program. Instead\, students will participate in practical\, hands-on activities focused on:

• Survival sequences
• Lifejacket skills
• Safe water entries
• Water safety awareness
The program wil l run for one full day (approximately 9:30am–2:00pm) in Week 4 Tuesday 1 2th of May. Funding covers pool entry\, instructors\, lane hire\, certific ates and a small afternoon tea. We will also walk to and from the venue.&n bsp\;

The Sutherland Shire Schools Music Festival (SSSMF) is a cel ebration of student achievement in music for public primary schools in the Sutherland Shire. Your child has elected to participate in this wonderful opportunity. The students will have two half day rehearsals\, one full da y rehearsal and perform in an evening concert.
All participating stu dents will need to purchase a Sutherland Shire Music Festival T-Shirt. The cost of this t-shirt has been included with this permission note and will be ordered by the school. Students are also required to wear long\, black pants and black shoes and socks to the concert.

The annual school cross country carnival will be held at Sut herland Oval on Tuesday\, April 28\, 2026. All students in Years 3-6 will be involved in the event and competitive runners in Year 2 who are turning 8 in 2026 are invited to participate.
