While building our hive the dreaded varroa mite infestation hit the local area and we we re not able to host our beehive and queen at the school. Now\, in 2025 we have a big goal in front of us. We are bringing our bees home to CPS! Befo re we do this we are going out to see where the bees are currently located and learn about the importance of the bees in pollinating local fauna and we will be learning how to care for the bees and harvest the honey for wh en the hive returns to us. \;

Students will continue to learn the importance of caring f or the environment and how all things in the living world are connected th rough hands on creative and engaging activities. \; \;

This year the guest speaker is the 2024 P aralympian of the year\, Lauren Parker!  \;Lauren will be sha ring her journey and insights on what it is to be a leader.

< strong>About Lauren

Lauren Parker is a professional athlete from Newcastle\, NSW. A decorated swimmer and surf lifesaver from a young age\, she discovered a passion for triathlons at 19. After several years of training and racing she rose to become one of the best triathletes in t he world for her age group.

 \;In 2017\, her life changed dramat ically when a devasting cycling accident left her paralysed from the waist down. Lauren faced numerous setbacks\, health complications\, surgeries a nd the emotional challenge of adjusting to life in a wheelchair. Yet throu gh it all\, she found her way back to the sport she loves. Through sheer d etermination\, Lauren returned to competition as a para-triathlete only 11 months after her accident. Within a year\, she won bronze at the 2018 Com monwealth Games\, followed by two world series titles in France and Italy. She went on to win her first world title the following year\, defending i t successfully over the next two years. She then went on to qualify and co mpete in the Tokyo Paralympics\, earning a silver medal.  \;

&nb sp\;In 2024\, Lauren made history at the Paris Paralympic Games\, winning gold in both Para-Triathlon and Para-Cycling\, becoming the first athlete in 48 years to medal in two different sports at the same games. Her extrao rdinary achievements and determination were recognised with numerous award s\, including Paralympian of the Year and the Medal of the Order of Austra lia for her contribution to Australian sport. Her philosophy is simple but powerful: if you get knocked down\, you get straight back up and keep fig hting.

    Students will have the opportunity to cruise the bay aboard a Mo onshadow dolphin watch marine tour\, student nature walks\, engage in inte rschool games and novelty competitions.

    This event is a fantastic op portunity for students to apply their learning in a real-world setting and interact with peers from other schools.  \;

    This workshop will be held from 10.30am for approximately 4 hours. It will be held in our school hall. There is no cost involved for students. S chool uniform and lunch will be as usual.

    Several staff and the Pres ident of the AECG will be in attendance to support students throughout the workshop.

    Interactive Petting: Ch ildren can enter the enclosure and interact directly with the animals.
