The Marina Calvary Nursing Home in South West Rocks has invi ted a small number of students to attend a Halloween event this year. A cl ass was chosen at random out of a hat and 1/2E are the lucky participants.
Students will walk with the classroom teacher and teachers aides do wn to the nursing home where they will meet the residents and engage in so me trick or treating events within the venue. Students are encouraged to d ress up for the event.
Students will be receiving packaged confectio nary from the residence. These items will be packed up and sent home at th e end of the school day.
More information regarding dress ups will b e sent out prior to the event.
Students who have completed the year as a QuEST Leader are i nvited to attend a day of fun at Stoney Aqua Park. The students will catch the bus to and from the aqua park and participate in two sessions. \;
Kindergarten will be embarking on a half day educational exc ursion to Trial Bay Gaol\, where they will have the opportunity to explore this historic site under the guidance of an experienced National Parks ed ucation officer. Students will be transported to and from the location by bus\, ensuring safe and convenient travel. This visit will provide student s with a hands-on learning experience\, deepening their understanding of h istory and the natural environment surrounding the gaol. The education off icer will lead interactive sessions tailored to each stage\, ensuring that the excursion is both informative and engaging for all students.
National Parks are updating their imagery for the website for the Gaol and have asked our classes to be part of this process. Please ensure you tick the permissions that allow your child to have their photo taken and published. We will be sending home an additional third party publishin g document that will need to be completed and returned in order for your c hild to be part of the Gaol's Public advertisement package. \;

The Department of Education's School Swimming and Water Safe ty Program is an intensive learn to swim program\, which develops water co nfidence and provides both basic and advanced skills in water safety and s urvival for all of Year 2 students and Primary (Year 3-6) students who can not\, or struggle to swim 25m of freestyle. The scheme is conducted over t en days (November 11th to the 22nd). Each daily lesson is 45 minutes.
< p>Students will walk to the pool daily under teacher supervision. The cost of the program this year is $40 which covers pool entry. All lesson and e quipment costs are covered by the Department of Education.In Week 6 of Term 4 (Mon 18th to Fri 22nd)\, students in Kin dergarten to Year 6 will participate in the Life Education Program. A spec ially trained educator will present vital health and safety messages throu gh tactile and multisensory activities. Students will visit the Life Educa tion van where they will meet Life Education's loveable mascot Healthy Har old. The educator will bring to life lessons that empower children to make safer and healthier choices\, now and in the future. After their visit to the van\, students will complete a 4 week program in the classroom\, look ing more deeply at the concepts introduced by the Life Education educator.
The cost of the program is $12 and includes an interactive lesson i n the Life Education van and a workbook to be used in the classroom.

Students completing Year 6 this year are invited to attend t he Year 6 Farewell dinner and disco. Students should arrive at the hall ab out 5:30 for 6pm dinner. Families are invited back at 8pm to watch a prese ntation and have some cake. \;
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: The competitive School Swimming Carni val is for those students who can competently swim 50m of at least one str oke (two laps of SWR pool). There will be no '\;fun'\; events on thi s day. We are holding a fun\, House Point Carnival\, the following Friday for all students in Years 3-6. Parents are permitted to attend the competi tive carnival ($1 spectator fee paid at the pool). \; For students in Year 2 to be eligible to attend they must turn 8 years old in 2025.
Venue/sStudents in Years 3-6 will be going to the South West Rocks Pool for an end of year celebration. Years 3 &\; 4 will go to the pool in the morning and Years 5 &\; 6 will go in the afternoon. The senior boys cricket team is playing Macksville Public Sc hool at Donnelly Welsh Playing Field\, Macksville on Friday\, 21 March. &n bsp\;We will be travelling to Macksville by private vehicle leaving school at 8:30am and returning around 2pm. \;Students are to bring cricket whites and any personal cricket equipment\, including appropriate protecti ve equipment\, their recess and lunch and plenty of water. \;If you c an assist with transport it would be greatly appreciated. \;
All Year 6 students who have elected to participate in the Q uEST School Leader program will participate in a training day this Thursda y. The K-2 Cross Country will be held on the school top oval on Wednesday 7th May at 9:30am. Parents are very welcome to come along to th is event. The best position for families to spectate from is around the fe nce line of the top oval. The presentation of ribbons will take place foll owing each race.
If your child is an 8 year old in Year 2 and they c ome in 1st-4th place\, they are eligible to attend the Years 3-6 cross cou ntry at the beach on Friday 9th May.
South West Rocks Public School Cross Country event will be on Friday 9th May and will comm ence at approximately 11:45am from the Surf Club end of Trial Bay. 8\, 9 & amp\; 10 yrs will run 2km and the 11\, 12 &\; 13 yrs will run 3km.
Students will walk to and from the event under the supervision of \;their class teacher and accompanying \;staff. They may come dressed in their sporting house c olours. \;
Students must bring plenty of water and a dequate sun protection on the day. The school will be taking full first ai d kits but those students who are diagnosed with asthma are encouraged to carry their reliever medication during the race. \; \;

We are excited to strengthen our community connections throu gh regular visits to Calvary Care\, our local nursing home. Once or twice a term\, students in infants classes will have the opportunity to walk dow n and engage with the residents through performances\, group readings\, an d singing sessions. These visits not only enrich our students' learning ex periences but also foster meaningful relationships with the elderly in our community. We believe that these interactions will promote empathy and a sense of belonging for everyone involved.
NSW Netball Schools Cup is designed to provide NSW Primary S chool students with the opportunity to enjoy netball in an inclusive and e njoyable environment. Our school will be taking three teams to the local e vent this year\, one competitive and two noncompetitive. Students will pla y in a gala day style event with the winning competitive team progressing to the Regional Finals in Port Macquarie later in the year. Transport will be by private vehicles so please indicate how your child will be travelin g and if you are able to assist with transporting others. \;
NSW Aboriginal Consultative Group in conjunction with the NS W Department of Education will be running a Dhanggati Language Camp at Yar rahappini on 18th-20th August. All Aboriginal students in Years 5 and 6 ar e eligible to attend. The school needs to submit an expression of interest form for each student wanting to attend. We will not find out if our stud ents are successful to be offered a position until closer to the date. The re is no cost for this camp. Your child has elected to be a part of the South West Rocks Public School Dance Grou p. They have been eagerly rehearsing at school for Macleay/Hastings Dance Festival 2025. We have now confirmed the cost will be $50. The Dance Festi val provides students with an opportunity to participate in a non-competit ive dance situation and gain a rewarding experience. \;
Students will be required to attend 1 rehearsal and performance night in June. Tic kets to the performance will be an additional cost. \;
Parents w ill be required to transport their child to the rehearsal and performance at The Glasshouse Port Macquarie. School will not be organising transport.
We will not know which date we are performing until Monday 24th Mar ch when the Dance Festival informs us.
Cost: $50 which includes the costume that the child will keep. This is due Wednesday 19th of March so w e can purchase costumes and finalise group numbers. Please note this is no n-refundable if your child does not attend or changes their mind later.

Students will att end a 2-hour session celebrating the wonders of science through engaging d emonstrations\, and hands-on activities that will provide them with a fant astic opportunity to explore various scientific concepts and engage with e nthusiastic high school teachers. This Excursion is open to the first 50 s tudents who submit their permission note and payment.
Students will compete against other Macleay Valley schools i n structured debates\, these will take place between weeks 4 and 7 in Term 3. Future dates will be advised. \;Mr Lynch will provide transport f or students participating.
NSW Netball Schools Cup is designed to provide NSW Primary S chool students with the opportunity to enjoy netball in an inclusive and e njoyable environment. Our school qualified for the Regional Finals event t his year. Students will play in a gala day style event with the winning co mpetitive team progressing to the State Finals in Sydney later in the year . Transport will be by private vehicles so please indicate how your child will be traveling and if you are able to assist with transporting others.& nbsp\;

The Todd Woodb ridge Cup competition is specifically designed for students in grades 5 &a mp\; 6. Aunty Nancy in conjunction with Figtree Descendants will be running activities around how we can care for Back Creek and the wildlife. \;Students will also be involved in a fishing activity. \;This will be a cultural activity for all of our Stage 3 students. Students will walk to and from school with school staff. \;Two classes will attend between 9:30am-11:00am and another two classes between 11:00am-12:30pm.

We are excited to welcome a National Parks educator to visit our infants class to learn about whales. Living on the Mid North Coast\, we are lucky to see these magnificent creatures regularly. Over the next f ew weeks\, students will be exploring whales as part of our English studie s\, deepening their understanding of these amazing animals and their envir onment.
Students are invited to attend the Aiden Tolman Rugby League 7s event in Kempsey. This is a non-competitive gala day. We are entering teams in U10s\, U12s mixed and U12s girls only divisions. All students are required to catch the bus in but may come home with their parents if requ ested. Students in the tackle teams will require a mouth guard and are enc ouraged to wear headgear and football boots. Headgear is available to borr ow from the school.

South West Rock's Boys PSSA cricket team will play Tacking P oint Public School in the next round of the NSWPSSA knockout. The game wil l take place at Wood Street\, Port Macquarie on Thursday 23\, October. The game will begin at 10am so please be at the ground by 9:30am. The Department of Education's School Swimming and Water Safe ty Program is an intensive learn to swim program\, which develops water co nfidence and provides both basic and advanced skills in water safety and s urvival for all of Year 2 students and Primary (Year 3-6) students who can not\, or struggle to swim 25m of freestyle. The scheme is conducted over t en days (November 24th to December 5th). Each daily lesson is 45 minutes.< /p>
Students will walk to the pool daily under teacher supervision. The cost of the program this year is $40 which covers pool entry. If your chil d is covered under a Fitness Passport account\, please see the pool office to organise this. All lesson and equipment costs are covered by the Depar tment of Education.

The Marina Calvary Nursing Home in South West Rocks has invi ted a small number of students to attend a Halloween event this year. A cl ass was chosen at random out of a hat and 5/6W are the lucky participants.
Students will walk with the classroom teacher and teachers aides do wn to the nursing home where they will meet the residents and engage in so me trick or treating events within the venue. Students are encouraged to d ress up for the event\, please ensure that these costumes are not too scar y and appropriate for school. \;
Students will be receiving pack aged confectionery from the residence. These items will be packed up and s ent home at the end of the school day.

Students in Years 3-6 will be going to the South West Rocks Pool for an end of year celebration. A specially trained educator will present vital hea lth and safety messages through tactile and multisensory activities. Stude nts will visit the Life Education van where they will meet Life Education' s loveable mascot Healthy Harold. The educator will bring to life lessons that empower children to make safer and healthier choices\, now and in the future. After their visit to the van\, students will complete a 3 week pr ogram in the classroom\, looking more deeply at the concepts introduced by the Life Education educator.

This is the end of year reward day c elebration for 2026. \;Students will participate in 2 sessions on the aquatic inflatable obstacle course with a break in between for food and g ames. On the day\, students can come out of uniform. \; The P&\;C a nd school are covering the cost of this reward for the students.

Walking excursion to Coastline Bank. Students dive into real -life money activities\, like exchanging 5 x $1 coins for a $5 note (which they get to keep\, thanks to support from the Community Foundation). They &rsquo\;ll enjoy a guided tour led by our friendly staff\, learning about money management through fun\, practical tasks. At the end of the visit\, each student takes home a goodie bag and a certificate to mark the occasio n.

There will be no 'fun' events on this day. We are holding a fun\, House Point Carnival\, the following day (Friday) for all students in Years 3-6. They will then work in small groups to interview and record community mem bers about their opinions of e-bike use in South West Rocks. This activity gives students a meaningful opportunity to explore our PDHPE unit related to road safety. Students will use the responses in a persuasive writing t ask at a later date. Stage 3 (Years 5/6) students are invited to attend a one wee k excursion to Canberra. We will be visiting Parliament House\, The War Me morial\, Royal Australian Mint\, Questacon and many other exciting and edu cational venues in Canberra. This non refundable deposit payment is to hol d your child's place on the excursion. The estimated total cost of the exc ursion will be around $850. Once final numbers are known we will have an e xact amount and a new note will be sent out. \;Should your child chan ge their mind and want to go after the deposit payment is due and we have finalised numbers we can certainly put them on a waitlist.

To supp ort our children and young people who have experienced change\, we are off ering an evidence based education program called Season for Growth. The pr ogram aims to: &bull\; that change is part of life &bull\; how to name and care for feelings &bull\; problem-solving skills &bull\; how to make good choices &bull\; to develop support networks.
The children will join a small group of between 4-7 participants and attend the weekly 45-minute sessions\, for 8 weeks commencing week 3 Term 2. Each child will receive a journal to guide them through the program and to record their learning. We complete the program with a celebration that parents and carers are inv ited to attend.

excursion is limited to the first 32 students who submit payment and perm
ission. The senior cricket team is playing Frank Partridge VC Public
School at Anderson Park Valla Beach. \;We will be travelling to Vall
a by private vehicle leaving school at 8:30am and returning around 2pm. St
udents are to bring cricket whites and any personal cricket equipment\, in
cluding appropriate protective equipment\, their recess and lunch and plen
