Kirrawee Publi c School will be applying to participate in Pulse Alive in 2025\, open to students in Years 3-6.
Pulse Alive is a large-scale perfo rming arts event\, celebrating talented students from NSW Public Schools i n Greater Sydney and beyond. It provides high quality opportunities in mus ic\, dance\, drama\, visual arts and public speaking for students all over the state.
When:
Performance: Thursday 20th or Friday 21st Ma rch 2025 (Term 1\, Week 8)
Rehearsal: One date between late February and early March.
Rehearsals will also be held at school during lunc h time once a week.

Ken Rosewall Arena\, Sydney Olympic Park

Resource fee (includes access to choreography\, m usic and T-shirt) $52

If your child would like to participate in Pulse Alive 2025\, can you please indicate this below \, provide the t-shirt size required and make payment by Friday 20th September\, 2024 (Week 9).
Please note\, if you give permission for your child to participate the resource fee will be non-refundable unless we can replace the position with another student . This is due to how the Pulse Alive team have set-up the application proc esses this year.

On \, Tuesday 12 November\, Year 6 will be running a Fun Day for students in Years K-6. The Year 6 students will design\, organise and create stalls for the Fun Day\, which is a fundraiser for the Year 6 pres ent to the school.
Stalls include:
Free games will be available on the oval\, as well as colouring activities\, f or those students who have used all their tokens or who do not have tokens . \;
Donations needed:
Cost: Students in Years K-6 will be able to purchase \"Kirr awee Kurrency\" tokens to use at the Fun Day. \;These toke n need to be pre-purchased no later than Friday 8 November.

As a sign of our appreciation of our 2024 School Leadership team\, we would like to invite our captains and prefects to join Mrs Oostdam and Mrs Eaton on a special tour of Sydney. A lena\, Mikey\, Kaly\, Nicholas\, Baylee and Archie have all demonstrated e xceptional leadership throughout the year and embodied our school values a t all times. We are extremely proud of their efforts and hope this is a fi tting reward for their hard work in 2025.
Our School Leaders&rsquo\; Tour of Sydney will include a guided tour of the Parliament House of NSW\ , a &ldquo\;Tour &\; Dine&rdquo\; experience at Sydney Opera House\, an d a self-guided visit to Hyde Park Barracks (time permitting). We will als o wander through the Botanical Gardens and take in the sights of the city.
Please drop your student to Kirrawee train station at 8.20am. Pick up from Kirrawee train station will be approx 4.30pm. (Exact time will be advised via School Bytes.)

We will provide students with an Opal card to travel on the trains for the day.

During our Hazelhurst Art Gallery visit Stag e 2 will have the opportunity to create a wire based sculpture. Students w ill first design in 2D form and then make their design into a 3D sculpture . The sculptures will be inspired by the work of Sara Contos. \;
\;Students will then have an opportunity to "\;Explore an d Connect"\; by participating in a guided tour\, of original artworks\ , in the exhibition. Guides will lead a Treasure Art Hunt\, where students can observe and discuss artworks\, and make a mini art piece.
\;To provide a safe and engaging experience for all students\, Stage 2 wil l be divided into two groups for the excursion. This arrangement addresses the limited space in the gallery and ensures that every student can fully participate in the activities. \;

As a part of our end of year celebrations\, 3-6K class students will be attending Zone Bowling at Southgate on Wednesday 4 December to participate in two games of ten pi n bowling before returning to school to enjoy a class party. \;
Students will travel by bus to Southgate Centre\, \;at approximately 9.45am and return to Kirrawee Public School at approximatley 1pm. \;

Students should wear their sports uniform. Zone Bowling will supply bowling shoes for the ten pin games. \;

On Monday 16th December we wi ll be holding an End-of-Year Celebration Day. This day is to recognise the incredible hard work and achievements of our students throughout the scho ol year.
The celebration will include a variety of fun\, rotational activities provided by external contractors \;"\;Play On Programs "\;. All equipment will be provided by Play On Programs \;and act ivites will be supervised by trained coaches as well as classroom teachers . \;
&bull\;K-2: Infants activities will commence from 9:30am -1 1:00am
&bull\;3-6: Primary activities will run from 11:30am -1:00pm< /p>
The cost is $15 per student. This is the $15 End of Year Celebration charge that was created in School Bytes in Term 1. If you have not yet ma de payment\, please do so before Friday 13 December. \;
Students wear mufti clothes and enclosed shoes and may bring a picnic blanket to s it on during lunch and recess times. Please be advised the canteen will no t be open on the day.

This form needs to be complet ed prior to close of business on Wednesday 18th December 2024.& nbsp\;
All written requests for therapy services will then be review ed by the school’s Learning and Support Team and a decision will be made as to whether the therapy service(s) requested are approved or not approv ed to be provided at school. A representative of school staff will then no tify parents/carers of the school's decision on the written request by Thu rsday 19th December 2024. Stag e 3 have the exciting opportunity to watch Kirrawee High School'\;s 202 5 Musical Production of Mamma Mia! \;This excursion ties in with the NSW Creative Arts Syllabus outcomes for Stage 3. It is also a chance for o ur students to visit one of our local high schools.
Please arrive at school by 9.30am The performance is at 11am. We anticipate our return tim e to school to be 1.15pm. \;

We are pleased to off er all students in classes 3-6K\, K-6NR and K-6P the opportunity to partic ipate in an intensive swim program at Sutherland Leisure Centre. The progr am is designed for all \;students in these classes to participate\, as it accomodates all levels of swimming ability.&n bsp\;The program is offered in line with the PDHPE sports curricu lum for Term One. \;
Students will travel by bu s from Kirrawee PS and participate in 45 minute intensive swim sessions be tween 11.45am and 1.30pm on the following dates: \;

It is important to note that students must have s wimming goggles with them to be able to participate. Sports unifo rm can be worn on swimming days\, please pack a dry change of clothes in a water proof bag each day so students have dry clothes to wear for the rem inder of the day. \;
Cost: Kirrawee PS has secu red some funding from the Department of Education to subsidise the cost to families to participate in the program. A \;$50 deposit charg e \;has been added to School Bytes Payment portal\, please p ay this deposit to secure your place. The remaining $130 can be paid off i n installments\, or paid as a lump sum. Please finalise your payment prior to 20 March 2025\, or make an arrangment with the school office.
Sw imming tutorials are $117 per student. \;Seat -belted bus to transpor t to and from the pool for two groups across the three weeks costs $63 per student. \;

Sutherland Zone PSSA has gained exclusive use o f the REAR CARPARK for schools to meet their team manager and enter the po ol together.

Studen ts successful in qualifying for the Sydney East Regional Swimming Champion ship will need to be available to compete at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic C entre (SOPAC) on Monday 10 March.

As part of Stage Two&rsquo\;s thematic unit First Contact\, 3/4S\, 3/4M\, 3/4W\, and Year 4 from 4/5E will be going on an excursion to The Rocks\, Sydney.

COST: The excursion cost is $50 which includes The First Contact Experience tour and travel expen ses.

In guided tours of Sydney&rsquo\;s iconic Rocks district\, students will dress up as migrants\, convicts\, and soldiers to recreate 19th-centu ry Sydney. Students i n the Inclusive Learning Hub are invited to attend a "\;Come and Try A thletics Event"\; at Sylvania Waters Athletics Track on \;Friday 28 March. \;
Travel will be via bus\, departing Kirrawee Public School at 9.15am. \;All activities w ill finish by 2.00pm and students will return to school via bus. \;
Students from local schools will aslo be in atendance\, however\, &nbs p\;KPS students \;will remain in their school group throughout the da y. They will only be separated into age groups with other schools during r unning events.

Your child has been selected to take part in a Debating Workshop at Bonnet Bay Public School.
As par t of our commitment to High Performance and Gifted Education\, Kirrawee Pu blic School will take part in the 2025 Premier&rsquo\;s Debating Challenge . We have over 15 Stage 3 students currently part of the KPS Debating Club . The aim of the Debating Club is to enhance the students&rsquo\; debating skills and help prepare for the Debating Challenge.
KPS has entered two teams of 4 students each (plus a reserve) into the Debating Challenge . These teams will participate in 3-4 debates each against other schools\, either in person or online during Terms 2 and 3.
To help prepare fo r the debates\, 8 students will have the opportunity to participate in a w hole-day Debating Workshop. Students will be accompanied by Mrs Ruth Eaton on the day.
Parents are required to transport their own child to an d from the venue. If you are able to assist with getting other students th ere\, please indicate below.

It is the responsibility of parents to tran sport their children to and from the carnival. Students will need to be at the venue by 8:30am. Students are able to be signed out from the carnival by their parents at the conclusion of their event. Students are required to wear their school sport shorts and a KPS PSSA singlet or shirt (provide d by the school) which will need to be washed and returned by the followin g week.
In order to meet the costs of coordinating the Zone Cross Co untry Carnival\, Sutherland Zone PSSA requires a $5.00 levy per participat ing student.
Please note that there will a coffee and snack van avai lable for parents\, however students are to bring their own food and water . There is also no parking at the oval available to anyone. There is stree t parking only so please allow yourself plenty of time.
There will b e first aid facilities at the park\, however students who are asthmatic ar e asked to ensure they have their own Ventolin and spacer on them. Student s who have been identified by their parents as having a medical condition may be required to wear a wristband detailing the medical condition so tha t appropriate first aid can be administered on the track if needed.
Please note that students who place in positions 1st &ndash\; 6th in their age group will go through to the Sydney East Regional Cross Country on We dnesday the 11th June. Students who are one of the first six qualifiers wi ll receive their note at the presentation after the races have concluded. It is important that any students who place in positions 1 &ndash\; 6 rece ive their note before leaving Miranda Park. Please note that transport to and from the Regional meet is the responsibility of the parents. If your c hild is selected for the Regional meet and has another commitment on the d ay\, it is important they notify the convenor so that the next qualifying student may be selected.
Cross Country Training
For those who are interested\, there will be cross country training at school on the fol lowing dates (weather permitting)\;
Tuesday week 3\, Thursday week 3 \, Tuesday week 4.
Training will take place from 3:35 &ndash\; 3:55. Students are to meet Mr McFadden on the oval after school for warm up\, a nd then they will run the school XC course. If training is cancelled for a ny reason\, an announcement will be made on School Bytes.

The festival promotes dance education to engage students in rigorous and comprehensive syllabus-based learning in p rimary and high schools. We are excited to ann ounce that our Stage 2 and 3 enrichment students have been invited to part iciapte in the NSW Space Discovery Showcase on 10 June at Optus HQ\, Macqu arie Park. \;
The NSW Space Discovery Showcase is an event that celebrates and showcases the design thinking projects of students and teac hers participating in the NSW Space Discovery Program. This event is the c ulmination of nearly two terms of work in the program\, providing an oppor tunity for students and teachers to share their creations with an authenti c audience. The program itself is a sponsored education initiative by The Andy Thomas Space Foundation and Makers Empire designed to engage students in STEM learning\, promote awareness of the space industry\, and offer re al-world learning opportunities.
Students will travel with Mrs Parke r and Mr Mahoney in two mini buses\, departing Kirrawee PS at 7.45am and r eturning at approx 2.30pm. \;
Lunch will be catered by Subway wi th the following selections availble (please indicate your choice via the online permission note.) \;

Create is a p rogram where students across six different art groups come together to cre ate an original musical. This year the title of the performance is &lsquo\ ;Something About Comet&rsquo\;. The story is about one person&rsquo\;s jou rney through time helping people find their strengths. \; There will be 3 days of workshops to create the musical from Monday\, 23 June &ndash\ ; Wednesday\, 25 June. This will be followed by a dress rehearsal\, matine e and evening performance on Thursday\, 26 June.
WORKSHOP INFORMATIO N \; Workshops will be held from Monday 23 June &ndash\; Wednesday 26 June. Dress rehearsal and performances will be held on Thursday 26 June. Technology and Visual Arts workshops will be held at Sutherland Public Sch ool\, all other workshops will be held at Pavilion Performing Arts Centre\ , Sutherland. All students meet at The Pavilion at 8:30am on 23 June befor e moving to workshop venues. Rehearsals conclude each day at 3pm. Parents are responsible for transporting students to and from rehearsals. \;
All students should wear mufti that is suitable for the activity they will be involved in\, including closed in shoes. Dance students should we ar clothing appropriate to dance\, please refer to the dance audition info rmation for further information about what to wear for dance. \;
< p>Students must bring recess\, lunch and drinks\, there will be no canteen facilities during the workshops. \; Students with medical issues mus t bring medication with them and give this to their workshop leader. Medic ation must have instructions\, and a medical form must be completed and re turned to the school prior to the workshop.\;Students must be dropped off and picked up from the workshop venue. Students will be signed in and out\, parents and carers must bring students to the venue and coll ect them from the venue in the afternoon. \;

Congratulations\, your chi ld has been invited to participate in the 2025 Schools Spectacular in the Combined Dance Ensemble on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 November. This is a v ery prestigious event and will be a very high commitment on behalf of you as parent/carer and your child.
Once again\, your childs&rsquo\; par ticipation in this event requires a great deal of commitment. There will b e costume and bus expenses\, as well as numerous rehearsals and performanc es. Stage Three (students
in years five and six) will have the opportunity to visit Point Wolstoncr
oft \;Sport and Recreation Camp in Term Four from Monday 15 December
to Wednesday 17 December 2025. Point Wolstoncroft offers activities such a
s canoeing\, kayaking\, raft building\, archery\, scavenger hunts\, ropes\
, orienteering and much more.
To ensure all students have a positiv
e and memorable camp experience\, student behavior must be at an excellent
standard for the duration of the camp. Behavior that risks student and or
staff safety could result in students being sent home from camp.
In order to finalise the costs associated with camp\, we will need f inal numbers before Week 7\, Monday 1 September. Families are advised to budget for costs being between $450 and $500. \;
Camp deposit due $100 Monday 1 September. Please note this deposit is non-refunable\, unless you are able to transfer the place to another student.

This term Stage 2 hav e been learning about Sustainability through our Thematic unit of work &ld quo\;The Blue Marble&rdquo\;. In Week 9\, students in 3/4S\, 3/4M\, 3/4W\, and Year 4 from 4/5E will be going on an excursion to Kamay Botany Bay Na tional Park\, Kurnell.
WHEN: Wednesday 17th Septemb er (Term 3\, Week 9)
TRAVEL: By bus (Please arrive at school by 9am. Expected to return at approximately 3pm) \;
COST: The excursion cost is $38\, which includes The Kamay
Botany Bay Environmental Education Tour and travel expenses.
Tour Details:
Students will be immersed in the rich biodiv ersity of the Kamay Botany Bay National Park bushland and beach habitats. Using the geographical inquiry process students will observe first-hand th e unique features of the dry eucalypt forest and sandy beaches on the Kurn ell Peninsular. Students will use a variety of fieldwork tools and record their evidence\, observations and investigations discovered during the bus hwalk. This will lead to an understanding of the importance of the nationa l park\, why it is valued by people and how it can be sustainably managed in the future.

We are excited to announce an exc ursion for Kindergarten in Week 9\, Term 3. The excursion is a valuable op portunity for students to enhance their learning experience outside the cl assroom and explore Sea Life Aquarium. \;
This excursion support s student learning in the NSW Science and Technology and Geography syllabu ses. Students will observe a range of sea creatures and aquatic habitats\, helping them identify living things and understand their basic needs\, as well as explore and discuss natural features of places. The experience al so encourages students to use their senses to observe\, ask questions and gather information about the world around them\, fostering curiosity and r eal-world connections to classroom learning.
Students will travel to and from the Aquarium via bus and have drink and meal breaks throughout t he day. \;

A Play for Fun Hybrid Development Athletics Carnival has been offered to schools within the Sut herland Zone PSSA \;for students who are not attending the Zone Athle tics Carnival and would like a chance to engage with other local schools i n modified events run by qualified coaches from Fit XP. \;
This is an awesome opportunity for our students to get outdoors and run around in a non competitive environment \;where fun will be the main focus o f the day. \;

Students will enjoy performances from Year 9\ , 10\, 11 and 12 Elective Dance students\, along with student-choreographe d works. They will also see dynamic routines from the Extra-Curricular Jun ior and Senior Dance Companies and the Junior Dance Ensemble.

Our final external dance performance for the year is here! The WAM Shire Scho ol Spectacular is run by our dance teacher Wendy McMahon. The performance will run from 7pm - 8pm. Doors will open for parents at 6:30pm. The show a nd awards will run for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Schools Spectacular is a v ery prestigious event\, and we are excited to offer a limited number of st udents the oppportunity to be a part of the audience for the matinee perfo rmance. \;

In order to accommodate dance performances of Term 4 choreography\, we have collaborated with South Village as they officially launch the Christmas season with the unveiling of the Christmas tree and a special visit from Santa. Please note Year 6 students who will be attend ing high school orientation on 2 December will not be able to perform at S outh Village. This is an unavoidable timetable issue that is out of the co ntrol of Kirrawee Public School. \;

Students in Years 5 and 6 are invited to attend an overnight camp at the Bathurst Goldfields on Mo nday 4 May \;and Tuesday 5 May 2026.
Itinerary : \;To supplement our class work we will be having an overnight curri culum excursion to Bathurst where students will undertake a gold tour of t he Bathurst Goldfields\, gaining an experience of what life was like on th e goldfields. \;In our te rm two HSIE unit of work Stage 3 will be studying different perspectives o n how people established colonies in Australia and looking at significant events to support our understanding of the past. Students will then spend the night at Bathurst Goldfield accommodation. \;
On the second day students will have the opportunity to visit some other historical site s around Bathurst\, before the return trip to school\, including a stop an d activities at Scenic World\, Katoomba.

Students in the Inclu sive Learning Hub have the opportunity once again to experience the Inclus ive School Sport Unit "\;Come and Try "\; Athletics Day at Sylvani a Waters Athletics Track on Friday 20 March 2026. Our students will have t he opportunity to share the day with other local Inclusive Learning Hubs / Support Classes\, taking part in a variety of modified athletics activiti es - such as track events (50m\, 100m\, etc) and field events (long jump\, discuss etc). \;
Times
Students will arr ive at school at 9.15am for roll marking before making their way via bus t o Sylvania Waters Athletics Track. All activities will finish by 2.00pm\, with students returning to Kirrawee PS after this time. Students will be d ismissed from school at 3.15pm as usual.
Uniform
All ILH students are encouraged to wear their full sports uniform\, in cluding appropriate sports footwear. Students may also like to bring a sma ll towel or blanket to sit on while eating in the spectator stands through out the day. All personal items should be clearly labelled too. \;
Cost
The cost per student is $35 for the event. This cost covers transport to and from Sylvania Waters Athletics Track and entry into the "\;Come and Try"\; event. \;
Toi lets
Each venue has male and female toilets plus a disabled bathroom. All teaching staff and SLSOs will be in attendance with student s on the day and will be able to provide assistance as required for each o f our students. \;
Spectators
As this is a participation event\, spectators are not encouraged. Our teaching and SL SO staff will take plenty of photos throughout the day which will then be shared with our community through our school'\;s social media platforms . \;

If families choose to purchase food from nearby outlets in S ydney Olympic Park\, it must be eaten offsite before returning\, as extern al commercial food cannot pass through Arena security.
So that the t eachers are aware of where to take students during the dinner break\, plea se indicate below where your child will be going for dinner. Kirrawee Public School has been invited to attend the ANZAC Day Dawn Service hosted by Miranda RSL on Anza c Day\, Saturday 25 April 2026.
We would like to invite our Year 6 P refects and Student Representative Council (SRC) members to join Mr Campbe ll and Mrs Martin in representing KPS at this important commemorative cere mony. Students will \;take part in the ANZAC March and observe the Da wn Service. Year 6 Prefects will also lay a wreath or book (provided by th e school) at the cenotaph.
We understand that ANZAC Day falls on a l ong weekend\, and while we would love to have our student leaders involved \, we completely understand if your child is unable to attend.

Kate and Jol Temple are internationally awarded authors o
f over 36 hilarious books for kids\, from smash hit picture book series

We ar e excited to announce that the HPGE Dance Group was successful in their au dition for In The Spotlight Dance Festival 2026 (ITSDF). \;

Venue: Seymour Centre (C nr Cleveland St and City Rd\, Chippendale NSW 2008)
Date:&nb sp\;Wednesday 10th June
Reh earsal - 2.30 - 4pm
Evening perform ance – 8.15pm
Students will leave school at approximatel y 12:30 pm and travel via bus to the Seymour Centre.
Stu dents will stay in Chippendale after the rehearsal for the performance and have three options for dinner:
Be c ollected by their parents for dinner at 5.00pm.
Be collected by another Kirrawee PS dancer’s parents at 5pm (please name the parent they will be going with).
Stay with Miss McClure\, having packed an adequate meal fo r dinner (please ensure no food needs to be warmed up).
A meeting spot for dinner pick-up and performance dro p-off/pick up will be confirmed closer to the event date. \;
We will advise you when tickets f or the evening performances go on sale. Please note that tickets will be s old via the \;Seymour Centre website.
Dress:
Miss Wendy is in the process of organising the costumes an d students will receive them prior to the performance. More details of wha t to wear\, hair styles and makeup and what to pack for the day will be se nt out closer to the event.
Merchandise:
In previous years\, there has been an opportunity for students to purchase ITSDF merchandise. We have not yet heard if this will be happenin g again this year but we will keep you informed.

Premier’s Debating Challenge - Debate One
Dear parents/carers\,
Congratulations\, your child has been sel ected in the Kirrawee Public School Premier’s Debating Team.
The t eams are as follows:

Each team will take part in four debates across terms two and three. If successful\, teams may then partici pate in further debates as they progress through the competition.
Debate One
Date: Wednesday 20 May
Venue: Caringbah North Public School. 125 Cawarra Rd\ , Caringbah.
Arrival Time: 8.45am
Pic k up Time: 12.30pm
Transport: Parents are responsible for transporting their child to and from the debate. I encoura ge parents to organise a pool. If this is not possible\, Mrs Eaton is able to transport up to five children to and from the venue.
Please note \, if you are transporting other students to the debate\, you will need to submit drivers licence and registration information at the office. \;
What to wear: Full school uniform. School blazers will be provided the day before.
What to bring: Pen cil case\, debating journal\, hat\, recess/lunch and water bottle.
R eserves: In the event that one of the debate team members are unable to at tend\, one of the reserves will be asked to attend in their place. Mrs Eat on will contact the impacted student as soon as possible.

Sydney Chess Academy Interschool Chess Challenge

Tournament Format
This tournament will be run as an
individual event for primary school students only. The winning school is
determined by adding together the four highest individual scores from each
school.
The competition will follow a 7 round Swiss format\, meanin g all students will play 7 games and no players are eliminated throughout the day.
Please note that numbers are strictly limited and e ach school may enter a maximum of 10 players. The first 10 students to com plete their SchoolBytes form will be nominated to attend the tournament.
Chess clocks will be used during the event\, with a short de monstration provided before the tournament begins. The time limit is 12 mi nutes per player\, per game.

Time< /strong> &ndash\; 9:15am arrival at the venue. Conclude approximately 10:3 0am. \;
Cost &ndash\; \;No cost with private transport. This may change if we have to hire transport for the day. \;
Travel \;&ndash\; W e are hoping that travel can be arranged via private transport. We underst and that taking time off may be difficult for some parents so we are askin g if parents who are able to make it may be able to help other students wi th car pooling. \;
