The Illawarra CBCA Literacy Lunch is an annual event celebra ting Book Week where school students from across the Illawarra have the op portunity to sit down to a delicious lunch with local authors and illustra tors. Students will learn about what it's like to write\, illustrate and p ublish children's books and what motivates and inspires these creators to keep making them.
A small group of eight Stage 2 student are invited to attend the event with our teacher librarian\, Ms Rachel Prior. There w ill be plenty of fun activities as well as the opportunity to browse the p op up book store.
Stage 3 students will be attending Jamberoo Action Park. Stu dents will have the opportunity to utilise the facilities on a day specifi cally dedicated for primary school students.

Bookings for our Year 6 Berry Camp excursion have been confirmed for 2025. Students in Year 6 will have the opportunity to attend the Berry Sport an d Recreation Camp for 3 days and 2 nights in Term 2.
The school camp will provide students access to a range of exciting activities that will be led by qualified outdoor education staff with a focus on improving the physical\, mental and social wellbeing. \;

All stude nts in K-2 (7 years old or younger) will compete in the following events - \;
- The track events are: 50m
- The tabloid events are: discus\, shot put\, javelin\, long jump ( fly)\, relays\, and hurdles.
All students 8 year s and older will compete in the following events -
The track events are: 100m and 200m. \;
The fie ld events are: \;long jump &\; shot put (high jump will be held at school).
800m &ndash\; The 800m event is for students 8 years and older and will commence at 8:45am sharp. \;Any student wishing to compete in this event will be required at B eaton Park by 8:30am. Students will need to arrange their own tra nsport to the carnival for this early morning event. \;
High jump will take place at school at a later date.

Organisation
The 2025 Athletics Carnival is a whole school event. There is no p rovision for supervision of students at school as all teachers are require d at Beaton Park to manage the carnival. All students who attend school on Wednesday 7th of May will be attending the athletics carnival.
Student Safety and Supervision
The ongoing wellbeing and safety of all of our students is highly i mportant. \;Parents and visitors are reminded that they are not permitted to enter the track area including the K-2 activities unless they are authorised to do so. Parents/carers are welcome to encourage and support their children from behind the fenced area.
Students are only permitted to leave Beaton Park if they have be en signed out by a trusted adult and their class teacher and/or staff memb er.

A schedule with finalised dates and times of the performan ces will be provided later in Term 2. Rehearsals will continue to take pla ce at school\, Monday lunch time (Years 5 and 6 students)\, Wednesday lunc h time (Years 2\, 3 and 4 students) and Thursday lunch time (whole dance t roupe Years 2-6). This year we will be hosting our Kindergarten Expo on Wednes day 11 June (Week 7) in the school hall from 4:00pm to approximately 5:30p m. This event is an opportunity for Unanderra Public School to showcase th e vast array of valuable teaching and learning\, and extra-curricular expe riences we have to offer for any prospective parents/carers of children lo oking to enrol in Kindergarten for 2026.
We would like to invite you r child to be part of this showcase in one of the roles listed below\, to support us in demonstrating the high expectations of learning and behaviou r we have at our school. The Kindergarten Expo is organised to begin at 4: 00pm and we are asking that you commit your child&rsquo\;s involvement in the event from 3:50pm to 4:40pm on Wednesday 11 June.&nbs p\;

District Field Athletics Carnival

Yo ur child has been selected to represent Unanderra Public School at the Dis trict Athletics Carnival in a field event. The District Field Carnival wil l be held \;at Beaton Park Wollongong.

\;The field events are long jump\, hi gh jump and shot put.
Your child will be given a hard co py note of what events they qualified for. \;
Travel will be by private transport organised by you\, the student&rsquo\;s pare nt / carer. \;
All competitors must report to the s upervising teacher half an hour before their first event to get their name marked off both when arriving at the carnival and before leaving. \;< /p>

At Unanderra Public School this year\, our NAIDOC celebratio ns continue on Thursday 18th September for Years 3 to \;6 &\; \;Friday 19th September for Kindy to Year 2. \;
During both days\, students will be imme rsed in hands on activities with Gumaraa &ndash\; a traditional A boriginal Culture and Education program. Activities on the day may include a smoking ceremony\, dance\, bush tucker\, artefact observations\, and bo omerang &\; spear throwing. This is a fantastic opportunity for all of our students to experience an authentic and engaging local cultural experi ence.
It will be mufti clothing for those students who are engaging in the Gumaraa activities for that day. In line with cele brating NAIDOC Week\, mufti clothes should resemble colours of the Aborigi nal and Torres Strait Islander flags. The colours include red\, yellow\, b lack\, white\, blue and green.

Students in Stage 1 have been learning about &lsquo\;People Live in Places&rsquo\; this semester as part of the geography unit of work . They have been exploring the how people use\, care for and connect with places and their specific features.
To provide additional learning e xperiences that support this focus area\, Stage 1 students are invited to attend an action-packed day at Symbio Wildlife Park\, Helensburg. The expe rienced rangers will lead the students on an education tour through the pa rk\, with the chance to interact with a variety of animals and environment s. Students will get up close with furry\, scaly and feathery friends whil e identifying ways in which people interact and care for places. By the en d of the day\, students will be able to describe the reasons places change \, and the active role of people in caring and preserving our natural worl d.

Students will be required to bring a poncho\, artificial flower\, kit chen utensil (spoon\, spatula\, whisk) and Hawaiian ley as part of one of their performances on the night. \;
Students need to be at school by 6:45am. The bus will leave promptly at 7am. If your child catches a bus to school please make arrangements to have them at school at this time. Anyone who is late will have to be drive n to the University by their parents/carers.
Students need to take morning tea\, lunch and a water bottle. Th ey may bring a quiet activity to do during their break as they will remain inside\, e.g. cards\, book\, no electronic devices.
Students will return to school by 2:50pm so they will be able to catch afternoon buses home if required.

The festival starts at 7pm sharp. Doors open at 6:30pm. Parents/carers a re to drop their child at the designated meeting place at 6:15pm. This loc ation will have been communicated to your child at the day rehearsal. Plea se remove all students' jumpers and jackets at this time\, as they will no t be returning to this room following the performance. Students do not bri ng water bottles with them on the night.
Pleas e note the following important points:
Choir members do NOT require a ticket and do not pay. Parents/carers an d guests need to purchase a ticket and bring their tickets.
Seats are not numbered\, i.e. on the evening it w ill be first in best seat. All choirs will be seated on stage and all tick eted seats have a good view of the stage.
This is a non-profit\, self-funded event. The money from ticket sal es is used to fund such costs as: \;venue hire\, removalists transpor ting and erecting staging\, purchasing original music\, copyright\, perfor mance licence\, teacher release for the Musical Directors to run the rehea rsals\, production of teaching CDs (Recording Studio) and resources\, prin ting of tickets and programs\, repairs/replacement of staging\, instrument s\, etc.
No food or drink (except w ater) \;is to be brought inside the Hall. \;
All members of the audience\, including young children\ , are asked to display correct concert etiquette\, e.g. remain seated\, ke ep conversation to a quiet minimum\, applaud politely at appropriate times \, etc.
At the end of the festival\ , which will finish at approximately 9pm the audience will be given inform ation about how to collect choir students.
Prior to the doors opening at 6:30pm parents/carers are responsibl e for their children. The Stage 2 excursion to Kamay Botany Bay will allow student s to explore \;and understand the different perceptions of Australian history\, from an Indigenous and European perspective. Students will put themselves in the shoes of historical figures in the very place where Aust ralia’s history changed forever: Botany Bay\, or Kamay\, where the HMAS Endeavour landed in 1770 under the command of Captain James Cook.
The South Coast Dance Festival committee is hosting a workshop this year to further support high potential and gifted education (HPGE) that promotes engagemen t and challenge in dance. \;
The HPGE Dance Enrichment Workshop aims to extend the composition and performance skills of students and teachers who are intending on participating in the 2026 South Coast Dance Festival.&nb sp\;

This reward day has been planned to supplement the PD/H/PE syllabus in Interpersonal Relation ships\, Personal Health Choices\, Safe Living\, Games and Sport and Active Lifestyles. \;

The excursion will involve water activities\, e.g. water slides\, jumping into a deep pool and swimm ing activities. You will need to complete the consent form in order for yo ur child to participate. \;
All outdoor attendants a nd permanent staff employed at Jamberoo Recreation Park are lifeguard trai ned with an emphasis on First Aid. A fully equipped First Aid Room with su pplies is also available.
Your Child&rsquo\;s Sw imming Proficiency
Regardless of what you nomin ate\, every child that wishes to participate in this excursion will be req uired to pass a Swimming Proficiency Test. \;
This t est will determine your child&rsquo\;s swimming proficiency level and\, th erefore\, which type of arm band they will wear during the excursion at Ja mberoo Action Park. A blue band will be placed on a proficient swimmer\, a nd a yellow wristband on a non-proficient swimmer. Students with \;yel low bands \;will \;only be allowed to participate in shallow water activities \;(they will NOT be allowed in the deep end of the Wave Po ol or to jump off any of the rocks).
A student with no w rist band will be immediately removed from the water.

Following the graduation ceremony\, i n keeping with Unanderra Public School tradition\, students will travel al ong the balconies of the school to say goodbye to the whole school communi ty. At the end of the walk\, Year 6 students will ring the bell to mark th e end of Primary School. \;
Farewell Dinn er and Disco

This ye ar\, our Farewell Dinner and Disco will be held at Wests Illawarra. The ev ent will be held in the Keira Function Room. Students\, accompanied by the ir families\, can start arriving from 5:30pm. At 6pm we will ask families to leave\, so that we can start the Farewell and Disco. We then in vite families to return at 8:45pm to join their child for a final dance to gether. All adults are reminded that alcohol will not be permitte d within this function room. At 9pm\, the Farewell will end and students w ill leave with their families\, once they have been signed out.

Ou r school athletics carnival will be held on Wednesday 29th of Apri l (Week 2\, Term 2) \;at Beaton Park\, Wollongong. This will be a wonderful opportunity for our students to compete on an international standard synthetic running track. \;
All st udents in K-2 (7 years old or younger) will compete in the following event s - \;
- The track events are: 50m
- The tabloid events are: discus\, shot put\, javelin\, long jum p (fly)\, relays\, and hurdles.
All students 8 y ears and older will compete in the following events -
The track events are: 100m and 200m. \;
The field events are: \;long jump &\; shot put (high jump will be held at school).
800m – The 800m event is for students 8 ye ars and older and will commence at 8:45am sharp.& nbsp\;Any student wishing to compete in this event will be required at Bea ton Park by 8:30am. Students will need to arrange their own trans port to the carnival for this early morning event. \;
High jump will take place at school at a later date.
A child’s age group is determined by the age they have turned/ will turn this year (2026)
For all events\, except for the 100m – that is: 800m\, 200m\, long jump\, high jump and shot put - events wil l take place for the following age groups.
Infants (5\, 6 and 7 year olds) \; \; \; \;- 11 Years
Juniors (8\, 9 and 10 year o lds) \; \; \; - 12/13 Years
For the \;100m \;event\, all age groups - that is\, 8\, 9 10\, 11\, 1 2 and 13 years old - will have their own individual age races.

Tim e: \; \; \;Students competing in events for age grou ps between Students aged 8 year s old to Year 6 events will need to be at school by 8:30am< /strong> to leave school (on buses) at 9:00 am sharp. Students will return by 3:00pm. The bus will not be able to wait.
Kindergart en – Year 2 students (younger than 8 years) will leave school (on Buses) at 10:00am and return by 2:15pm \;
800m competitors – students are required to make their own way to Beaton Park for this e arly morning event. \;
Travel: \; \; \;Bus or private transport.
Cost: \;Due to a generous contribution from our P&\;C\, there will be a small \;cost of $7 per student this year. < strong>All students attending the carnival are required to pay the $7.
We will be requiring extra time keepers for the running events and would very much appreciate the help of any parents/carers who are ava ilable on the day to assist. You will need to contact the office staff if you haven't provided them with your volunteer Working with Children Screen ing.
Additional information/special requirements for par ticipation:
House colours or school sports uniforms to be worn.
Adequat e sun protection e.g. 50+ broad spectrum\, water resistant sunscreen and a hat.
Water Bottle (drinks in glass containers are not permitted). In warm weather\, dehydration can be a pro blem. Students are encouraged to drink prior to and at the conclusion of t heir events.
Spikes may be worn in the 100m\, 200m\, long jump and high jump events. Spikes must only be worn at and during the specified competition event. \;They are not to be worn at school\, to and from an event or between events.
Organisation
The 2025 Athletics Carnival is a whole school event. There is no provision for sup ervision of students at school as all teachers are required at Beaton Park to manage the carnival. All students who attend school on Wednesday 29th of April will be attending the athletics carnival.
The on
going wellbeing and safety of all of our students is highly important.
Stu dents are only permitted to leave Beaton Park if they have been signed out by a trusted adult and their class teacher and/or staff member.

Your child has been successfully selected to participate in the 2026 South Coast Public Schools Dance Festival at th e Illawarra Performing Arts Centre. \;
A schedule with finalised dates and times of the performan ces will be provided at the beginning of Term 2. Rehearsals will continue to take place at school\, Wednesday lunch time (Years 5 and 6 students)\, Thursday lunch time (Years 3 and 4 students) and Friday lunch time (whole dance troupe Years 3-6). As part of your child'\;s commitment to being a member of our boys basketball team\, they are invit ed to represent Unanderra Public School to compete in the South Coast Boys Basketball Knockout Competition for 2026.
The team will be playing in their first knockout match against Cringila Public School at The Snakep it Stadium. This is the second round of the competition because our school was assigned a bye in the first round.
All students are expected to attend school before the match and must organise private transport to and from the venue.
