The performance\, by t he group El Camino\, will conclude a unit of work completed durin g each class's weekly music lesson with Mrs Lanyon. There will be one perf ormance at 1:55pm for the whole school.

 \;El Camino (' The Journey') is a Musica Viva Australia In Schools show developed in 2025 \, in collaboration with three musicians from the Australian group Son ido. The music of El Camino features traditional melodies an d instruments of the Andes mountains\, South America. It also references p owerful themes around social justice and change-making\, on the basis that music can be a tool for positive change. In creating the show\, the music ians\, who hail from Western Sydney\, wanted to share the music\, language s\, and culture of their ancestors with students all over Australia. \ ;

The school is subsidising 50 percent of the cost of this incursion .

The ca mp will also include a visit to the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS)\, giving students a glimpse into the world of elite athletes\, followed by a n exploration of Questacon\, where they'\;ll enjoy hands-on science exh ibits. They'\;ll discover the fascinating process of coin production at the Australian Mint and reflect on Australia'\;s history during a visi t to the War Memorial. The ‘Barangaroo’ concert final rehearsal and performance \, at the Sydney Opera House\, will be on Wednesday\, August 6th. The Stag e 3 Choir will travel to the rehearsal by train\, leaving Blackheath stati on at 8:03am.  \;Choir members are to meet Mrs McIntosh on the Blackheath train station platform at 7:45am. Students need to br ing their lunch\, which we will eat in the Botanical Gardens\, before comm encing the rehearsal in the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall at 12:30pm. Th e rehearsal will conclude at 4:00pm. \;

Students will need an Op al card for this excursion. The cost of the train trip will be $5.33.  \;

Dress for the rehearsal and concert will be the concert t-shirt\, black pants and black socks\, or knee length skirt and black stockings\, and black shoes. All students are to wear their school jumper/jackets. Ple ase include a raincoat if rain is forecast. Students will need to bring a hairbrush so that they can look neat and tidy for the performance. \;< /p>

Parents will meet their child either at the conclusion of the rehear sal\, at 4.10pm\, or at 5:00pm outside the ‘Playhouse’ located on the ‘Western Broadwalk’ (see attached map). Students staying with me until 5:00pm will spend time in the Botanical Gardens. Parents will be responsi ble for organising dinner for their child. Please inform me\, via email\, if your child will be collected by another parent and if you will be picki ng your child up at 4:10 or 5pm.

The evening performance will commen ce at 6:30pm. Students will meet me outside the ‘Playhouse’ at 6.00pm ready to perform. At the conclusion of the concert\, around 9.00pm\, paren ts are to collect their child again from outside the ‘Playhouse’. Tickets for the FOCM ‘Barangaroo’ concert went on sale on Wednesday July 2nd through the Opera House Box Off ice. Ticket prices are $46 full price and $39 for concessions\, with a lim it of THREE TICKETS per booking. Students who are performing in the concer t will NOT require a ticket.

All songs will need to be known off by heart for the performances. Rehearsals at school are on Mondays at 12:30pm . Parents are asked to assist their child to download the teaching tracks from the internet. You will need to know whether your child requires the S oprano or Alto tracks. Mo nday September 8th

The &lsquo\;Jacaranda&rsquo\; concer t final rehearsal and performance will be on Monday\, September 8th. The r ecorder group will travel to the rehearsal by train\, leaving Blackheath s tation at 8:02am.  \;Recorder players are to meet Mrs Lanyon a nd Ms Bishop on Blackheath train station platform at 7:45am. We w ill have lunch in the Botanical Gardens before commencing the rehearsal in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House at 12:30pm. The rehearsal will conclude at 3:15pm. \;

Students will need an Opal card for this excursion. The cost of the train trip will be $5.33. They will need their recorder (no music)\, food and drink for the whole day. All items must be brought in an A4 size shoulder or carry bag (backpacks will not be permit ted in the Opera House).

Dress for the excursion and concert will be concert t-shirt\, black pants and black socks\, or knee length skirt and black stockings\, and black shoes (no bare legs). All students are to wear their school jumper/jackets. Please include a raincoat if rain is forecas t. Students will need to bring a hairbrush so that they can look neat and tidy for the performance. \;

Parents will meet their chi ld either at the conclusion of the rehearsal\, at 3.15pm\, or at 4.45pm ou tside the &lsquo\;Playhouse&rsquo\; located on the &lsquo\;Western Broadwa lk&rsquo\; (a map of the Opera House will be sent home). Students staying with teachers until 4.45pm will spend time in the Botanical Garde ns. Parents will be responsible for organising dinner for their child. Ple ase indicate the pickup time for your child on the permission note

T he evening performance will commence at 6.30pm. Students will meet me outs ide the &lsquo\;Playhouse&rsquo\; at 6.00pm ready to perform. At the concl usion of the concert\, around 9.00pm\, parents are to collect their child again from outside the &lsquo\;Playhouse&rsquo\;. Parents will be responsi ble for transporting their child home from the Opera House.

Blackheath Public School's dance group will be performing at The Upper Blue Mountains Learning Community (UBMLC) of Schools Dance Fest ival. This festival provides an opportunity for students to further develo p their potential and talent in dance. Our dance group will be performing two dances choreographed by Miss Harris. The two dances are 'Enemy' and 'T he Middle'. This year the performance will be held at Yanguu\, Katoomba Hi gh School's new multi-purpose facility.

Rehearsal

The UBMLC festival consists of a rehearsal that will be conducted dur ing school hours and an evening performance. For the rehearsal\, students will come to school at the usual time and a coach has been generously prov ided by the UBMLC to transport our students to and from Katoomba High Scho ol. Students will return to Blackheath Public School by the end of the sch ool day. \;

Performance

The evening perfo rmance will be held at Katoomba High School in Yanguu\, their new multi-pu rpose space. The performance will start at 6pm. Doors to the venue will op en at 5:45pm. Parents are asked to transport their child to and from the v enue. Mr Yeong and teachers from Blackheath Public School will be onsite K atoomba High School to supervise your child. Please drop your child(ren) t o Katoomba High School at 5:20pm. Instructions for collecting your childre n will be given at the end of the concert.

The Stage 2 Choir will travel to the rehearsal by train\, leav ing Blackheath station at 8:03am\, changing trains at Central for Town Hal l. Choir members are to meet Mrs Lanyon and Mrs McIntosh on the pl atform of Blackheath Station no later than 7:45am. All choir memb ers are to use their own Opal card\, with at least $5.40 credit.

We will then have lunch at the Darling Quarter playground in Darling Harbour\ , a 10 minute walk from the Town Hall. The rehearsal will commence at 12:3 0pm and conclude by 3:45pm. \;

Parents are required to collect t heir child either at the conclusion of the rehearsal\, at the side entranc e of St Andrew&rsquo\;s Cathedral in St Andrew&rsquo\;s Square\, or by 5:0 0pm at the Playground in the Darling Quarter. Parents will be responsible for their child&rsquo\;s dinner. All choir members will then meet teachers at the side entrance of St Andrew&rsquo\;s Cathedral\, in St Andrews squa re\, at 6:15pm before the concert commences at 7:00pm. Kindergarten will be going on an excursion to Calmsley Hill City Farm on Thursday 13th November. This is our first excursion for the y ear and is a much anticipated event for the children. We will have an oppo rtunity to meet all sorts of animals\, milk a cow and even go on a tractor ride. This excursion is linked to our Term 4 unit of work on Living Thing s\, Life Cycles and Growth and Change.

Students should wear full sch ool uniform. It can be very warm at the farm\, so a hat is essential. Many areas on the farm are covered but we encourage children to wear sunscreen .

Students will need to bring their recess and lunch. The children t end to eat more on excursion days\, so you might like to include some extr a food items as well as at least 2 drinks. No glass or cans please.Natural ly\, best manners need to come to school that day!

Payment of $50.00 should be made by Tuesday 11th November. This includes the cost of the bu s\, a tour of the farm\, sheep shearing demonstration\, whip cracking\, wo rking dog exhibitions and a tractor ride. This excursion is always a highl ight of our Term Four activities and offers a hands-on opportunity to expl ore a working farm.

We will be leaving at 8.15am\, students should a rrive at school no later than 8am. We are planning to return between 3.45 - 4pm.

The NSW Department of Education School Swimming Scheme is an intensive learn to swim program\, which develops water confidence and provides students wit h basic skills in water safety and survival.

Stud ents who have not reached a satisfactory standard of water safety and surv ival skills\, and are unable to swim 25m confidently unaided in deep water \, are eligible to participate in the School Swimming Scheme. The Scheme f ocuses on weak swimmers in Years \;2 and 3 but can pr ovide opportunities for weak swimmers in Years 4 to 6.


The Scheme is conducted over ten days at the Katoomba Sports and Aquatic C entre. Each daily lesson is 45 minutes. Students will leave school at appr oximately 12.45pm and return before the end of the school day.


There are 60 place s available. Places will be made available to students in years 2 and 3 fi rst\, until 28 October\, with remaining places to then be opened up to wea k swimmers in years 4 to 6.


The cost of this activity ($130) includes bus trav el and entry fee to the pool.

If students have a pool pass\, they may use this for pool ent ry. Cost for students using pool passes is $76. Pool passes must be sighte d each day.

The annual school Talent Quest will take place in the School Hall on Wednesday\, December 17th. All students are invited to audition\, to be selected for the Talent Quest\, at lunchtimes in Weeks 7-9. Each st udent can perform in up to 2 different acts. Acts may include instruments\ , dance\, singing\, skits\, magic\, comedy or anything that will entertain the audience and score well with the judges!

 \;Around 40 acts will be selected to perform\, and prizes will be awarded to Stage and over all winners. Students will be reminded about auditions closer to Week 7. S tudent not performing in the Talent Quest will be part of the audience.

The final Talent Quest performance order will be posted on the Hall do ors on Tuesday December 16th.

Entrance to the Talent Quest\, for all students and audience members\, will be by gold coin donation. The money raised will help cover the cost of prizes. Donations for prizes will be mo st welcome. Please drop them at the school office.

Your child has qualified to represent Blackheath Public School at the BMPSSA Zone Swimming Carnival a t Glenbrook Swim Centre.

Entry to the pool will cost $5.40 for all competitors. All children will need to pay as they enter the swim centre. Please ensure your child has the $5.40 as they will not be allowed to ente r without paying. No money will be collected at school. Spectators are mor e than welcome to attend and will be required to pay a $3.00 entry fee.

Parents are asked to ensure their child arrives at the pool by 8:20am . Marshalling for the first event will commence at 8:50am. Students can wa rm-up from 8:30am. The carnival will conclude around 2pm. Please report to Mrs Hardge who is the team manager for our school.

This is an incredible commitment of time and resource s from Mrs Freeman\, who delivers the lessons and prepares the necessary e quipment. We are thrilled to be able to offer Orienteering for all students in Stage 2 and 3\, as pa rt of our school&rsquo\;s high potential and gifted education implementati on plan.  \;Orienteering is an exciting and challenging outdoor sport that exercises the mind and body.  \;Participants apply positional and map reading skills to navigate to different checkpoints. \;

The school has been very f ortunate to secure the services of Mrs Freeman\, an ex-parent of Blackheat h Public School to deliver lessons in orienteering to every Stage 2 and 3 class.

The lesson s are 1 hour in duration and have been scheduled to be delivered over thre e Fridays in Weeks\, 6\, 8 and 9 of Term 1.  \;Each class will be prov ided with 2 lessons. This is an incredible commitment of time and resource s from Mrs Freeman\, who delivers the lessons and prepares the necessary e quipment. As a token of our appreciation for her time and effort\, we ask for a $5 contribution from each student.

It is our hope to send a team of  \;students t o attend the Sydney West orienteering competition later in the year. Durin g these lessons\, students will be assessed on their performance and an in vitation will be sent to the top performing students to attend the Sydney West competition. The dates for this competition has not been published as yet.

Students in the Leadership Team are invited to attend the Ha logen Young Leaders Day Convention at The International Convention Centre (ICC). The program is designed to benefit students who show an interest in developing their leadership potential. This year\, there will be speakers from all walks of life\, including Catherine Laga'\;aia\, Daniel Bull\ , Jess Yates and Nick Hudson. Over 23\,000 students along with their teach ers/principals attend this event around Australia annually. \;

T ransport for the excursion will be by train and light rail\, so a child Op al card will be required with required funds for return travel from Katoom ba Train Station to Central Train Station and the light rail from Central Station to the ICC Sydney Convention Centre.

We will be catching a t rain from Katoomba Station to Central Station. We will aim to meet at Kato omba Station at 6:00 am and catch the 6:16 am train. We will arrive at Cen tral Station at 8:18 am and walk to the ICC at Darling Harbour. If there i s inclement weather\, students will catch the light rail from Central to t he ICC. \;

The event is due to finish at 2:30 pm. We will aim to catch the 3:09 pm train to arrive at Katoomba by 5:08 pm.

The cost of entry and participation in workshops has been funded by the school.

We are excited to announce that in Term 4\, our Stage 3 students w ill have the wonderful opportunity to attend The Great Aussie Bush Camp at Camp Wombaroo\, located in the beautiful Southern Highlands. Nestled on 1 00 acres of lightly wooded land\, surrounded by open paddocks and native b ushland\, Camp Wombaroo offers a refreshing country setting that provides the perfect environment for our students to explore\, learn\, and grow. On ce a working farm\, this lively outdoor education hub now gives students a chance to connect with nature and make lasting memories.

The camp program is designed to promote teamwork\, courage\, and a spiri t of adventure. Students will experience activities such as high ropes cou rses among the gums and campfires under starry skies\, gaining valuable sk ills and a true taste of the Australian outdoors. We believe this experien ce will not only be enjoyable but also impactful\, fostering resilience an d cooperation that will benefit our students well beyond their time at cam p. \;

There will be one performance\, at 1:55pm \, for the whole school. \;< /p>


The Mara! band blends traditional vocal and instrumental reperto ire from many countries with modern jazz improvisation. The resulting fusi on\, coupled with Mara Kiek'\;s extraordinary voice\, has thrilled audi ences and brought acclaim from critics and music lovers around the world. They have toured schools in Australia extensively\, for many years\, for M usica Viva.
