3/4L\, 3/4M and the Year 3 Students from 2/3P will be partic ipating in a 5 week coding course during school time to address compulsory outcomes in the Science and Technology syllabus.
They will be explo ring coding with Scratch\, led by expert teachers from ICC STEM. These les sons will be held every Tuesday beginning in Week 2 (29th July) and run fo r 45 minutes each lesson.

Choir and dance students will be attending a day time rehearsal at Bankstown Sports Club. This is an opportunity to rehears e on stage in preparation for the evening performance. To help us understand some of the roles in our community we have some firefighters from Riverwood fire station coming to visit us\ , talk to us about safety\, and even show us their truck! Th e swimming carnival will offer 50m races in all strokes for all ages\, wit h Year 6 students competing in their own races as they will not be progres sing to any other carnival as a result of our swimming carnival. Students who achi eve qualifying times will be progress through to the Zone Carnival in 2026 .

Your child has been selected to represent Peakhurst West PS in the Gifted &\; Talented M athematics Competition Day \; at Sydney Technical HS on Monday 3 November 2025 (Week 4). The d ay will begin at 9.30am with a presentation ceremony at 2.30pm.
Students will compete in a team of 5 to complete various mathematical c hallenges. The competition is modelled on the long running ANU Maths Day f or Year 12 students. The questions are problem-solving style Mathematics q uestions. There are three different events requiring both teamwork and con trasting strategies. The events often generate a fair amount of excitement particularly the relay competition where students race up to their helper to check and submit their answers. STHS will be providing morning tea and lunch for competitors on the d ay.

We will be holding our 2026 School Swimming Carnival during Term 4 of 2025. This will be for students in Year 2 - Year 6 .
The s wimming carnival will be held on \;
Wednesday 3rd of December 20 25 at Roselands Aquatic Centre.
Students will be travelling by bus\, departing school at 8.45am and returning to school by 3.30pm.
On ar rival\, all students will be tested to determine their swimming ability.&n bsp\;
The swimming carnival will offer 50m races in all strokes for all ages\, with Year 6 students competing in their own races as they will not be progressing to any other carnival as a result of our swimming carni val. We will also have structured water activities for those who are able to swim and other land based activities for non-swimmers. \;
Stu dents who achieve qualifying times will be progress through to the Zone Ca rnival in 2026.
All students are required to attend the swimming car nival as it is a school day and there will not be supervision for them at school due to staff attending the carnival. \;
To celebrate students that completed the Premier'\;s Read ing Challenge and logged their books independently we will be having a par ty on Monday 8th December from 2:30-3:20pm in the school library.

Halogen Young Leaders Day is an opportunity for our student leaders to connect and be inspired\, with other student leaders from aroun d New South Wales.
They will spend the day enjoying inspirational sp eakers and doing activities which will support their leadership journey.

Tr avel: Student to meet Mrs Beynon at Riverwood Train Station at 7.20am. Stu dents will return to Riverwood Station by 3pm. Students will need their ow n loaded Opal card (minimum $10).
Students must wear full school uni form (including black shoes) and bring all their food and drink for the da y. There may be an opportunity to purchase a Halogen Leadership pin for $5 \, so students may like to bring some money for this.

Your child has been selected to represent PWPS in the \;Academy of Chess Primary School Tournament at Sydney Technical High School on Monday 9th March. Students should arrive at 9a m and the event will be finished at approximately \; 2pm.
Studen ts will be need to be transported to the venue and picked up at the conclu sion of the event. \;They will be supervised by Mrs Beynon at the eve nt.
This tournament is run as an individual event. The winning schoo l is determined by adding the 4 highest scorers from each school. This tou rnament is a 7-round ‘Swiss’ competition. This means that all players play 7 games and no-one is ‘knocked out’ of the tournament.
Ches s clocks will be used in this event. There will be a short demonstration o n the use of chess clocks before the start of the tournament. The time lim it is 12 minutes per player per game. \;

The Contemporary Aboriginal Art program\, guides participa nts through an exploration of traditional and contemporary artistic techni ques\, emphasising the historical and cultural significance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art. \;
Throug hout the program\, students engage in hands-on learning experiences and st orytelling sessions that deepen their understanding and connection to the art and its cultural heritage. \;
Open di alogue and yarn sessions foster a supportive and inclusive environment whe re sharing perspectives and personal experiences is encouraged.
Students in Year 5 and 6 have been invited to attend a sport Gala Day at GRC Peakhurst which will be run by their Year 10 PASS student s\, to assist with their sport coaching element of the class. \;
This will be a free event\, with students walking to and from GRC from PW PS.
Our Student Leaders and selected SRC leaders are invited to attend St George Montessori Preschool on Ogilivy Street Peakhurst\, to ass ist children with making Easter Hats on Thursday 26th March during school time. \;
Students will walk to the preschool accompanied by Mrs Beynon and assist preschool children in creating an Easter Hat to take par t in our Easter Hat parade in week 10.
Students will need to dress i n full school uniform on this day as they will be representing our school.

We would like to offer the opportunity to students in Years 3-6 who have a passion and interest in public speaking to participate in t he NSW Arts Unit Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition.&n bsp\;
The attached note contains all of the information regarding sp eech topics\, length of speeches and other information. \;
Stude nts will participate in the school competition first and will need to deli ver a prepared speech in front of adjudicators at school. They may be requ ired to also do an impromptu speech if needed.
\;Winners of the school finals will progress to the network finals later in the term. Ther e will be 2 students chosen from Stage 2 (Year 3 and 4) and 2 chosen from Stage 3 (Year 5 and 6) to progress to the network finals. \;
Stu dents who would like to participate in this competition will need to prepa re a speech in line with the attached guidelines\, ready for presentation at school on Thursday 14th May.

The first reh earsal will be held on Wednesday 20th May Choir Rehearsal at Lakemba Publi c School from 10am - 12pm (Term 2 Week 5). \;
The second rehears al will be held Wednesday 12th August Choir Rehearsal at Lakemba Public Sc hool from 10am - 2pm (Term 3 Week 4)\, and a final rehearsal at the Bankst own Sports Club on the day of the performance Wednesday 9th September (Ter m 3 Week 8). The actual performance is in the evening. \;
Please note that on the night of the concert\, students will need to arrange the ir own transport to Bankstown Sports Club\, either with a parent or guardi an.
For the performance\, all students are expected to wear the choi r uniform\, which is standard across the festival. This includes a white T -shirt and full-length black pants.
T-shirts have been ordered based on the sizes students provided to Mrs Dalla-Bona and Mrs Lucock. Students will need to purchase the t-shirts at a cost of $17. \;
Student s whohave already purchased a shirt in previous years do not need to pay a gain and have already informed the choir teachers. Orders have now been fi nalised\, so if you do locate your shirt and no longer require a new one\, unfortunately changes can no longer be made. \;
A separate paym ent will be sent via SchoolBytes for students receiving a shirt.
The total cost for the first two of rehearsals at Lakemba Public School is $2 5 per student. This includes bus transport to Lakemba Public School for th e first and second rehearsal. \;
Costs for the final rehearsal a t Bankstown Sports Club will be sent outcloser to the dates.
Student s will need to bring their morning tea in a small bag for the rehearsal\, and will be required to be at school by 9.00am at the latest.
