PSSA Bandjalaam Swimming Carnival 2025
The swimming carnival is on Wednesday 19 Februar y 2025. The carnival includes students and staff from Dunoon PS\, The Chan non PS\, Corndale PS\, Whian Whian PS and Modanville PS. Parents are welco me to come but will remain with the school group on the left-hand side of the main pool under the shelter. The cost per student is $15. This include s entry to the pool and bus transport for all students to the pool and ret urn to school. The bus will be leaving school as soon as possible after th e first bell has been rung. There will be no teachers left at scho ol on this day as the carnival is a whole school event for 2025.
Students attending the carnival will be split into three groups according to their swimming capabilities demonstrated at the end o f year swimming assessments in term four and consultation with classroom t eachers\, except for our current kindergartens who will be automatically p laced in the non-swimmers group unless otherwise notified. The program is divided into three groups:
-Group 1\, Competitive 50m/10 0m age races of various strokes\, students need to be turning 8 years this year or are already older. Students will be pre-selected for their races before the carnival day.
-Group 2\, Non-competitive 25m age races (only freestyle and breaststroke styles)
-Grou p 3\, Non-competitive structured water activities.
Stude nts in groups 1 and 2 will be seated in our school group under the shade w hen not swimming in a race unless going to the toilet or canteen.
Students in group 3 will be placed in mixed school age appropria te groups of no more than 10 students and rotated throughout the day with 15-20 minute time slots in the 25 metre pool with a platform in place to a ssist with students being able to touch the bottom of the pool participati ng in structured water activities.
All students will be expected to have to wait for events demonstrating our three behaviour expe ctations- Be safe\, be responsible and be a learner. No students or parent s are to be near the edge of the pool or judging areas.
Students will not be changing groups during the day due to School Swim ming Carnival Safety Guidelines.
A canteen list wil l be sent home when finalised. Students will need to wear their school uni form\, bring swimmers\, rash shirt\, sunscreen (optional)\, school hat\, t owel and plenty of drink and food.
Staffing a swimming c arnival is essential to minimise risks. It would be greatly apprec iated if you could complete the swimming carnival permission note as soon as possible\, even if your child is not attending this whole school event and parents have arranged alternate supervision.

On the day\, we have a fantastic range of activiti es planned. To accommodate our large group\, we will organise the activiti es in a round-robin format\, with each group of 20 students participating in four different activities\, each lasting 30 minutes. Activities will in clude:

Canberra is the destination for the Y 5/6 excursion this yea r. Sunday 24th August - Friday 29th August 2025. \;Bexhill Public Sch ool &\; Upper Coopers Creek Public School students will be joining us.
We will be travelling with Mazzer&rsquo\;s Buslines and staying at t he Warrambui Conference Centre. Breakfast on the way down and dinner on the way back at own expense. \; A detailed itinerary is attached.
This valuable experience supports Stage 3 HSIE outcomes relating to the Australian Constitution\, Government and electoral processes and responsibilities. Other institution s where students will gain greater awareness\, national pride and a sense of history include\; National Museum\, National Gallery\, Australian Mint\ , Parliament House\, Institute of Sport\, the National War Memorial\, Ques tacon and the Deep Space Complex.
A unit of work to compliment this excursion will be undertaken prior to the excursion.
Some extra curr icula activities include ice skating\, bike riding around Lake Burley Grif fin\, and visits to Cockington Green and the National Dinosaur Museum.

We will depart Bexhill School on Sunday evening at 6pm sharp to arrive in Canberra at 7am on Monday.
The cost of this excursion is $650.00 per student which includes accommodation\, bus travel\, activities and mos t meals.

Match Duration: Two 25-minute halves with a 5-minute break\, plus any overtime if required.

Stud ents will have the wonderful opportunity to watch and enjoy performances b y other students showcasing singing\, dancing\, and drama at the Lismore P erforming Arts Festival Matinee. This event not only allows them to experi ence a variety of creative talents. The matinee will be held on Wednesday from 11.00 AM to 1.15PM\, with non performing students travelling by bus. \;It promises to be an exciting and inspiring day for all involved! All performers are to be dropped at the UNI by a parent and meet Ms Kerr at 9.30am. The rest of the school will meet them there afte r catching the bus to the venue. All students can catch the bus to return to school.

On \;Frida y 5 September\, our team will be facing off against Eltham Public School&r squo\;s team at the Eureka Football Club (near E ureka PS) in what promises to be an exciting and competitive match. To sho w our support for this very special game\, all of us from MPS will be atte nding alongside the students and staff of Eltham PS to cheer our team on. Let&rsquo\;s come together and celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship and t eamwork!
The game will kick off at 10:30am and will consist of two 2 5-minute halves\, with a 5-minute halftime break. The team will begin warm ing up at 10:00am upon arrival.
Following the game\, our school will head to Rocky Creek Dam for a picnic and a walk along the Platypus Walk. This will be a wonderful opportunity for students to enjoy nature\, and sp end time together after the excitement of the match.
