Our school has invited WW1 Living History to d
eliver an engaging and interactive incursion for students. This program ha
s been running for over 12 years\, reaching more than 100\,000 students ac
ross New South Wales.
The incurs ion provides a hands-on learning experience about frontline soldiering in World War 1\, using historical artefacts\, storytelling\, and humour to br ing history to life. This session is designed to deepen students'\; und erstanding of WW1 in an engaging and memorable way.
Year 7 will be going to One Mile for fieldwork.
Students will have the opportunity to stay on snow and learn to ski or snowboard in all day lessons with a qualified ski/board instruc tor. Experienced skiiers/boarders will have advanced lessons. An initial n on-refundable deposit (unless there is a waitlist) of $400 is required. Fo rtnightly payments of $110 are needed to make the final payment date of 31 st July\, 2026. This excursion to Council Chambers in Taree is a scaffolded learning experience in which students will increase their uderstanding of leadership and careers in local government. They wll experience what it 9\;s like to be a leader by playing the role of a Councillor. Students wil l hear from local leaders and young achievers and will use research\, pres entation and debating skills as they make decisions on topics like open sp ace and infrastructure planning. \;
Luminosity Youth Summit is a dynamic two day national forum uplifting young people to explore ideas for success. \;

We are planning a wellbeing-focused fishing excu rsion for Year 10 students. This activity aims to promote relaxation\, tea mwork\, and resilience by spending time outdoors and engaging with nature in a supportive group environment.
Fishing encourages mi ndfulness and personal wellbeing while fostering collaborative skills and appreciation for our local environment. As part of the NSW Year 10 Persona l Development\, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) syllabus\, this excu rsion aligns with outcomes relating to &ldquo\;promoting health\, safety a nd wellbeing&rdquo\; and understanding the importance of positive relation ships and healthy lifestyle choices.
Students will be able to complete their General Construction Induction (White Card) Course in the Careers room at school.
Students will compete \;the NSW Premier'\;s Debating Challenge. Teams entering the challenge compete in a round-robin series o f debates against nearby schools\, with the winners going on to compete at Zone\, then state level to determine the eventual state champion. This ro und is the first round.

Students will participate in a day trip to Kirawee High Scho ol to visit the Cultural and Language Tanken Centre.
The Nihongo Tan ken Centre provides students with an immersive Japanese language and cultu ral experience. During the visit\, students will take part in a four-hour program tailored to the needs of our students. The activities are designed to help students practise and extend their Japanese language skills in an engaging and authentic environment. Limited spots available\, so please b e quick to submit permission note and money.
Students who have expressed an interest to sing in the C ombined Schools Choir at Shine On 2026 are invited to attend the first combined schools vocal workshop\, the details of which appear b elow. \;

Your child has been selected to attend the International Wom en'\;s Day Luncheon as a representative of Great Lakes College Forster Campus. A number of guest speakers will address the students whilst they e njoy a 3 course meal\, an opportunity to network with others and learn mor e about leadership.
Students and teachers will explore several attractions aroun d the Gold Coast as a celebration of their hard work and dedication this y ear. Our itinerary includes visits to theme parks\, restaurants\, and loca l landmarks. Participants will engage in team-building activities\, educat ional shows and make deep connections with their peers.
Students will participate in an Aboriginal Careers Day\, whe re they will have the opportunity to engage with professionals and explore a variety of career options within our local community. The excursion wil l include a visit to Yalawanyi Ganya (MidCoast Council&rsquo\;s headquarte rs)\, where students will learn about careers in local government\, commun ity leadership\, administration as well as the numerous traineeships and a pprenticeships available. At the MidCoast Council Waste Management Centre\ , students will gain insight into environmental management\, sustainabilit y\, and waste services\, and hear from staff about related career pathways . At Taree Universities Campus students will explore further education opp ortunities and learn about pathways to tertiary study. \;

This is a reward excursion to watch and support the GLC Open Boys Rugby League Team in the Finals of the University Shield Opens Rugby League Competition

As part of our ongoing commitment to student wellbeing and personal safety education\, all Year 9 girls will be participating in the \;Girl Aware - Student Personal Safet y Workshop on \;Monday 3 August.
Girl Aware workshops are designed to support girls and young women to feel more confident\, aware and safe. The workshop is trauma-informed\, age appropr iate and delivered in an engaging and supportive environment. It focuses o n building practical\, real-world personal safety skills that students can use in everyday situations.
The workshop will be broken into two se ctions. Tenpin bowling is an excellent sport for students with disabi lity. By adapting the game to utilise lane bumpers and ramps as necessary\ , it ensures the game is inclusive of all. \;

All Year 9 students will be participating in the Walk the Talk program on T uesday 18th August as part of our school&rsquo\;s ongoing commitm ent to respectful relationships and student wellbeing education.
Walk the Talk is a nationally recognised program delivered in partnership with Women&rsquo\; s Community Shelters and Enlighten Education\, aimed at preventing domestic and family violence through contextual learning and real-world action. The program e mpowers students to make a positive difference in their communities by con necting classroom learning with meaningful local impact.
Students will first take part in a half-day workshop (Periods 1&ndash\;3) led by experienced facilitators from Enlighten Education\, one of Aus tralia&rsquo\;s leading providers of in-school wellbeing programs. This in teractive session builds students&rsquo\; understanding of respectful rela tionships\, empathy\, and community responsibility.
Following the workshop\, students will be supported to participate in a practical community action project\, working with thei r local women&rsquo\;s shelter. This may include fundraising\, awareness c ampaigns\, or hands-on volunteering initiatives that directly support wome n and children in need.
This p rogram is fully funded and comes at no cost to students or families.
High Potential and Gifted Education - Biology and Ea rth and Environmental Science Enrichment Day
An opportunity exists for your child to participate in an enrichment day at Great Lakes College Senior Campus.
The day will expose High Potential and Gifted Year 10 students from Forster and Tuncurry Campuses to sophisticated prac tical work\, high-level critical thinking and problem solving skills in pr eparation for the rigours of the Stage 6 Biology and/or Earth and Environm ental Science course. It would be highly advantageous for students to atte nd this day.
The day will run from 8.40 am until 3.00 pm in the Senior Campus Science area. Students will meet at the Senior Campus Administration office at 8.40 am and be escorted to the Science are a.
Forster Campus students are to make their own way to the Senior Campus on the day. They will be able to catch buses that S enior Campus students use to and from the Senior Campus. This is a similar arrangement to that used during the Year 10 transition week in Term 4.
There is \;no cost for students to participate in the activity.
Full school uniform\, including sturdy\, cove red shoes are required\, as practical work will be involved. \;

National Week of Action: Bullying No Way

This year\, Great Lakes Colleg e Forster Campus will be participating in Bullying No Way: National Week of Action\, taking pla ce from Monday 17 August to Fr iday 21 August 2026.
Bullying No Way Week is
a commitment being made by thousands of schools and supporters across the
country. It provides an opportunity to demonstrate our collective stance
against bullying and to strengthen the culture of care and respect within
our school community. This year&rsquo\;s campaign theme is: Small
Acts\, Big Impact! \;
Throughout the week\, students will engage in a variety of meaningful discussions and activities aimed at promoting empathy\, inclusion\, and re spectful relationships. We encourage families to continue these important conversations at home and to speak openly with their child about the impac t of bullying and how to seek help if needed.
On Friday 21 August\, we will mark the National Day of Action with a special out-of-uniform day. Students are encou raged to wear purple to show their support for a safe and inclusive school environment. Think purple shirts\, pants\, jumpers\, accessories &ndash\; be bold and wear purple!
In addition to classroom activities\, stud ents will be invited to participate in a range of whole-school events during Lunch and Period 5\, including sessions led by visiting community organisations. A BBQ lunch will be provided by the Lions Club\, at no cost to students.&nb sp\;Representatives from Homebase Youth Services\, HeadSpace and Mission Australia will be on campus to provide information\, support\, and interactive activities designed to fu rther strengthen student understanding of respectful relationships and hel p-seeking strategies. \;
"\;The Nyiirun Djiyagan Wakulda Women&rsquo\;s Festi val is hosted by Djiyagan Dhanbaan (strong sister movement support group) at the Birpai Local Aboriginal Land Council. They are an Aboriginal women& rsquo\;s group which promotes\, the revival of culture through language an d practices\, self-empowerment\, leadership and self-care:

High Potential and Gifted Education - Mathematics Enrichment Day
An opport unity exists for your child to participate in an enrichment day at Great L akes College Senior Campus.
The day will expose High Pote ntial and Gifted Year 10 students from Forster and Tuncurry Campuses to hi gh-level critical thinking and problem solving skills\, with an emphasis o n algebraic skills\, in preparation for the rigours of the Stage 6 Advance d and Extension Mathematics courses. It would be highly advantageous for s tudents to attend this day.
The day will run from 8.40 a. m. until 12.30 p.m. in the Senior Campus area. All participating students will meet at the Senior Campus Administration office at 8.40 a.m. and be e scorted to the venue. Forster Campus students are to make their own way to the Senior Campus on the day. They will be able to catch buses that Senio r Campus students use to the Senior Campus. This is a similar arrangement to that used during the Year 10 transition week in Term 4. At 12.30 p.m. F orster Campus students will be returned to their campus using the Senior C ampus bus\, where they will resume their normal timetabled lessons.

High Potential and Gifted Education - Chemistry Enri chment Day
An opportunity exists for your child to particip ate in an enrichment day at Great Lakes College Senior Campus.
The d ay will expose High Potential and Gifted Year 10 students from Forster and Tuncurry Campuses to sophisticated practical work\, high-level critical t hinking and problem solving skills in preparation for the rigours of the S tage 6 Chemistry course. It would be highly advantageous for students to a ttend this day.
The day will run from 8.40 am until 3.00 pm in the S enior Campus Science area. Tuncurry Campus students will meet at D106 at 8 .40 am\, while Forster Campus students will meet at the Senior Campus Admi nistration office at 8.40 am and be escorted to the Science area.
Forster Campus students are to make their own way to the Senior Camp
us on the day. They will be able to catch buses that Senior Campu
s students use to and from the Senior Campus. This is a similar arrangemen
t to that used during the Year 10 transition week in Term 4.
There i s no cost for students to participate in the activity.
Full school uniform\, including sturdy\, covered shoes are required\, as practical work will be involved.
Students need to bring writing e quipment and a calculator.

Students will compete \;the NSW Premier's Debating Chal lenge. Teams entering the challenge compete in a round-robin series of deb ates against nearby schools\, with the winners going on to compete at Zone \, then state level to determine the eventual state champion. This round i s the first round.

All Year 8 students will be partic ipating in a special wellbeing program on Wednesday 19 August\, as part of our school&rsquo\;s ongoing commitment to respectful relationships and st udent wellbeing education. The program is being delivered alongside our sc hool&rsquo\;s participation in Bullying No Way: Week of Action and will be facilitated by Enlighten Education.
Enlighten Education is an award -winning social impact organisation that delivers evidence-based programs designed to help young people navigate adolescence\, strengthen their well being and build positive relationships with themselves and others.

Goodfellas
Year 8 boys will participate
in the Goodfellas program\, which provides a positive an
d supportive environment for boys to explore some of the stereotypes and e
xpectations associated with masculinity. Through group discussions and act
ivities\, students will explore connection\, relationships\, conflict mana
gement\, self-advocacy and positive wellbeing. The program encourages boys
to challenge stereotypes that may negatively impact them and develop the
skills to build strong relationships\, support their peers and contribute
positively to their school community.
The Butterfly Effect
Year 8 girls will participate in The Butterfly Effect\, a program designed to empower girls to find their voice\, streng
then their confidence and build positive connections with themselves and o
thers. Through interactive activities and discussions\, students explore i
ssues relevant to adolescence\, including body image and stereotypes\, fri
endships\, self-esteem\, personal boundaries\, conflict and positive wellb
eing. The program encourages girls to think critically about the messages
and pressures they encounter and develop practical strategies to support h
ealthy relationships and positive decision-making.
There is no cost for students to participate in the program.
We are planning a wellbeing-focused fishing excu rsion for Year 10 students. This activity aims to promote relaxation\, tea mwork\, and resilience by spending time outdoors and engaging with nature in a supportive group environment.
Fishing encourages mi ndfulness and personal wellbeing while fostering collaborative skills and appreciation for our local environment. As part of the NSW Year 10 Persona l Development\, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) syllabus\, this excu rsion aligns with outcomes relating to &ldquo\;promoting health\, safety a nd wellbeing&rdquo\; and understanding the importance of positive relation ships and healthy lifestyle choices.
Students have the opportunity to complete a one day First Ai d course at school at a subsidised cost. Students will be able to gain the following qualifications:

Students competing in the Hunter Final 16 to qualify for Sta te Championships. Held at Broadmeadow Basketball Stadium. Fees cover bus t ransport\, venue hire and referees.
Students will participate in activities that encompass the i ntellectual domain of HPGE (High Potential and Gifted Education). Year7\, 8\, and 10 GLFC students will have the opportunity to mentor Year 5 and 6 students from the local feeder primary schools for the day. Activities wil l take place at GLCFC. The day will feature a variety of workshops and act ivities\, giving students an opportunity to strengthen their higher-order thinking skills and forge connections with fellow high achievers in a supp ortive and enriching environment.

Blue Minds is an ocean and climate leadership program that works with young people around c limate anxiety\, ocean health and practical ways to respond to environment al concerns. \;The w orkshop gives students a youth-led perspective on climate anxiety and coas tal climate issues\, along with practical tools to manage climate-related stress\, build a sense of agency and move towards positive action.& nbsp\;
Students will be umpiring netball games for our feeder prima ry schools at the Manning Primary Schools Gala Day
To assist in the running of the primary school league tag an d rugby league gala day. Students that have their rugby league refereeing course certificate are eligible to attend and volunteer.
Training for state relay
This is an opportunity for students to attend a careers pres entation delivered by the Sydney Flight School. The SFS will provide information to students about a care er in aviation and the different pathways available for those interested i n becoming a pilot. The presentation is from 9am to 10am at our Sen ior Campus. \;
This is a chance for students to visit the Port Macquarie Ca mpus of Charles Sturt University. Students will listen to guest speakers a nd will get the chance to take part in various workshops to give them a ta ste of what life might be like as a university student at CSU. CSI are cov ering all costs so this is a free excursion for students. \;

Venue/sMrs Freeman will be taking selected students on the Campus b us to attend the Shine On Dress Rehearsal. This excursion provides a uniqu e opportunity for students to experience a live theatrical performance\, e nhancing their understanding and appreciation of the performing arts. Atte nding the dress rehearsal will allow students to observe the creative proc ess behind a production\, develop critical listening and viewing skills\, and inspire their own creativity and confidence in artistic expression. Th is enriching experience supports the development of cultural awareness and complements classroom learning in arts and literature.
